Job Title: Electrical Engineering Technician

FLSA/EEO: Non-exempt

Location: Charlotte, MI

Our Electrical Engineering Technician is a critical part of our manufacturing team. You will be working as part of the team within the entire manufacturing area. You will install, maintain, trouble-shoot and optimize across a vast range of hardware and software such as Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Human Machine Interfaces (HMI), Variable Speed Dives (VSD), Servo systems, Safety systems, Industrial Networks, Instrumentation and Sensors. You must be able to understand, explain, and program in ladder logic (preferably RSLogixs 5000). You must be able to provide effective fault elimination/escalation support that leads to successful return to operation of the manufacturing and support equipment. The use of physical tools, software tools and test instruments are fundamental to carrying out tasks associated with building, installing and maintaining our automated manufacturing systems. You must be able perform tasks and provide services to support the plant's production goals, overall business plans and objectives as directed. This position is exposed to occupational hazards, including but not limited to, high noise levels, high ambient temperature, working from heights, physical obstacles, exposure to chemicals, etc. and requires working with or near energized 480 VAC circuits. Must be able to work 12-hour shifts including days, nights, weekends, and overtime as business needs dictated. A minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar role in a fast-paced manufacturing or industrial company is required.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • The understanding of safety procedures required to work on automation equipment in an industrial environment.
  • Electrical safety circuits/systems.
  • Mathematical principles and theories that underpin engineering.
  • Principles of electrical and electronic circuits and devices
  • Single and three phase circuits.
  • AC and DC motor and control circuits.
  • Use of diagnostic tools and equipment.
  • Use of basic hand and power tools.
  • Program functionality in ladder logic.
  • Automation knowledge (Preferably Rockwell) - Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Variable Speed Drives (VSD), Human Machine Interface (HMI) & hardware and software tools to carry out configuration, programming and trouble-shooting duties.
  • Instrumentation knowledge - instrumentation used to measure flow, temperature, pressure etc. and the means by which they transmit measurement data.
  • Use of software tools - Justification in the utilization of software tools would be for but not limited to the changing of hardware configurations, firmware updates, software modifications and commissioning.
  • Industrial networking knowledge - the application, installation and operational characteristics of industrial communication networks.
  • Quality systems - quality assurance principles to ensure operation, consistency and quantification of enhancement of manufacturing and process applications.
  • Must gain a thorough understanding of the operating principles of all assigned equipment.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • The ability to work safely in an industrial environment, and where required, produce risk assessment/method statement documentation. Be able to apply the principles of functional machinery and/or process safety.
  • The ability to produce and interpretate a range of technical documentation (device manuals, operating procedures, schematics, fault reports etc.).
  • Capabilities in support of installation, commissioning, shut-down, start-up and maintenance/service/support of a wide range of systems and devices.
  • Diagnostic capabilities – Troubleshooting, diagnosis, rectification and reporting of automation control systems and controls applications via the utilization of formal problem-solving methods and diagnostic tools/software.
  • Instrumentation configuration and calibration - Set-up, calibrate and commission a wide variety of field level instrumentation that interfaces to automation & control systems.
  • Industrial Networks configuration and support - configure, assist commissioning and continued support of industrial network solutions at all hierarchical levels of control system integration using the requisite tools and or software.
  • HMI configuration and programming - Make changes to existing systems or implement new configurations.
  • PLC configuration and programming (Preferably Rockwell) - Implement complex PLC program content and configurations to affect changes to increase availability and or efficiency of automation-controlled machinery. The ability to configure PLC hardware.
  • Install and troubleshoot facility power distribution and lighting services.
  • Ability to wire, assemble, and layout electrical/electronic systems in an extremely neat and professional manner.
  • May require ability to operate a forklift and or scissor/boom lift.
  • Perform general electrical work, i.e., conduit, wire sizing, pulling wire, and construction.
  • Must have sufficient endurance to perform tasks over long periods of time.
  • Must follow company policies, procedures, practices, and standards of conduct as outlined in the MCL manuals.
