Job Description: Filling Department Manager

Summary:

The Filling Department Manager is responsible for all shifts department operations, including staffing, training, development, safety, quality, productivity, delivery, and reporting of KPIs. This position oversees Production Supervisors and Team Leaders to achieve department objectives, establish process controls, and ensure the production of quality cosmetic products. The role also involves maintaining plant safety rules and hygiene standards during production operations and driving the culture for Schwan Cosmetics USA.

Reports To: VP of Operations

Titles Supervised: Production Supervisors, Team Leaders

Essential Responsibilities:

1. Directing Production Staff (40% of time spent):

  • Manage Production Supervisors and Team Leaders to achieve department objectives.
  • Ensure the department is adequately staffed to meet production demand at standard production rates across all shifts.
  • Oversee departmental staffing and training to ensure efficient production operations meet or exceed Schwan quality and safety standards.

2. Ensuring Safety and Hygiene (20% of time spent):

  • Enforce adherence to plant safety rules, plant hygiene standards, and preventative maintenance expectations.
  • Identify and execute continuous improvement activities to enhance department operations.

3. KPI Reporting and Communication (15% of time spent):

  • Provide reports on department KPIs and actions to improve below-standard results.
  • Communicate departmental performance, safety topics, client projects, and other relevant information to keep the team informed and engaged.
  • Utilize financial data to drive continuous improvement initiatives within the department.

4. Supporting Pilot and Line Trials (10% of time spent):

  • Assist with pilot and line trials to determine standard operating parameters and controls.
  • Ensure adherence to established standards and execute continuous improvement activities to enhance department operations.

5. Employee Motivation and Development (10% of time spent):

  • Inspire and motivate employees to focus on safety, quality, productivity, and performance.
  • Provide learning and development opportunities to promote growth and build expertise.
  • Set expectations, provide feedback, and make personnel decisions to enhance team performance.

6. Additional Duties (5% of time spent):

  • Perform other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, management, engineering, operations, or a related field is preferred.

Experience:

  • Five (5)+ years of manufacturing, operations, leadership, or Lean Six Sigma experience preferred.
  • Packaging, Food, beverage, pet food, injection molding, dispensing operation and filling process
  • Green belt or Black belt certification is preferred.
  • SAP, ERP experience
