RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Completing daily health assessments prior to starting each workday.
  • Conducting daily safety self-meetings using a Pangea-approved app.
  • Submitting daily safety check-in/check-out texts to Pangea’s team.
  • Reviewing project documents and evaluating environmental requirements related to the projects.
  • Conducting daily field inspections to ensure environmental compliance.
  • Performing biological surveys, nest surveys, nest sweeps, and stormwater inspections.
  • Assist with stormwater sampling as needed.
  • Composing and submitting accurate and thorough daily inspection reports (with photographs) for submittal to clients, and state and federal agencies.
  • Uploading project photographs to Pangea’s cloud server daily.
  • Apply excellent communication skills with project team, landowners, clients, construction, and the public.
  • Identifying issues and concerns and determining appropriate resolutions, while working collaboratively with Pangea’s management team.
  • Conducting training and providing environmental updates to crews during daily tailboards.
  • Coordinating with construction teams to determine schedules and planned work activities to evaluate areas before construction.
  • Meeting with construction personnel to assess project access, extra work areas, and deviations from project plans to complete Field Change Orders (FCOs).
  • Attending meetings with Pangea’s internal team to discuss compliance status.
  • Providing daily and/or weekly email summary updates to Pangea’s team regarding project concerns and needs.
  • Collaborating with the Pangea team to provide details and input for weekly reports.
  • Coordinating with Pangea’s team regarding environmental compliance, including challenges, observations, and solutions.
  • Recording real-time entry of time (clocking in/clocking out with Pangea-approved app on company-provided iPhone), ensuring lunches and breaks are accounted for within the app.
  • Submitting mileage and vehicle service needs via email or smartphone app according to a schedule defined by Pangea.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Wildlife Management, Sustainability, Biology, Ecology, or a related field. Demonstrating a solid educational foundation, this role requires a relevant degree.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in biological/environmental monitoring or compliance roles: Candidates must showcase proven expertise and bring substantial hands-on experience navigating complex environmental landscapes effectively, in California, and the western United States.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and Google Earth: Essential technical skills are required to understand and analyze data accurately, ensuring precision in reporting, with secure and reliable high-speed internet service.
  • Strong knowledge of environmental regulations and compliance requirements specific to California: Comprehensive regulatory knowledge - Environmental Compliance Inspector/Monitor will ensure all projects adhere to state and federal environmental standards.
  • Excellent communication skills: Effective communication with team members and stakeholders with timely, effective, and respectful communication.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently while maintaining attention to detail: Multitasking should not compromise quality; the Environmental Compliance Inspector/Monitor must juggle various responsibilities while focusing on detail-oriented execution.

TRAVEL

This position requires local day travel and possible overnight travel for temporary field assignments, with travel, lodging, and meals paid.


WORK ENVIRONMENT

The Environmental Compliance Monitor/Inspector works remotely at home and outside in the field. This position requires frequent use of four-wheel-drive vehicles.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described in this job description are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential job functions of this role. While performing the duties of this job, the Associate Biologist is required to:

  • See, talk, hear, read, write, walk and stand for a minimum of 1 hour up to 12 hours a day sometimes on uneven or rocky terrain, while bending, crouching, and reaching to collect data, and hiking several miles per day to conduct surveys and/or monitor construction activities.
  • To work in the field for long hours.
  • May be exposed to inclement weather including rain, snow, and hot and cold temperatures.
  • Must be able to carry or lift up to 35 pounds.
  • Must wear protective equipment such as; gloves, hardhat, safety glasses, ear protection, safety vest, reinforced-toe boots, snake chaps, long sleeves, and long pants.
  • May be exposed to thick brush, poison oak, snakes, and insects when working outside in the field.

Monday to Friday (weekend work possible, at times, due to client schedules)
