Summary

Reese Law Group is a law firm located in Carlsbad (San Diego County) that specializes in debt collections, subrogation, bankruptcy, and replevins.

The Compliance Officer position is responsible for ensuring that RLG complies with client standards, State and Federal laws including the Insurance Code, Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), state consumer protection laws, and other applicable rules and regulations. The ideal candidate is an exceptionally organized, methodical professional with the experience necessary to take our work product to the next level.

Essential Job Functions

  • Research client contracts to determine applicable requirements and take affirmative steps to assure compliance.
  • Conduct audits of employee performance and productivity on a regular basis and report findings to management.
  • Demonstrate broad and deep knowledge of compliance manual policies
  • Develop and communicate new and/or modified processes to appropriate employees, and function as main point of contact for questions, concerns, and suggestions relating to standards, requirements, business processes, regulations, etc.
  • Coach, educate and communicate potential concerns for general compliance or compliance manual policies to team members and supervisors
  • Provide input into training and assist with observation and coaching to management
  • Lead small department projects or act as a subject matter expert
  • Assist with oversights, monitoring and assignment of workflow
  • Prepare (and present, where applicable) formal responses to requests by government officials, outside auditors, business partners/clients, regulatory groups, etc.
  • Present findings, recommendations, and reports to firm leadership as directed.
  • Conduct internal audits of processes to ensure training standards are being upheld, partnering with department heads to address deficiencies where necessary.
  • Attend legal/compliance seminars (or similar) to network with potential business partners and stay current on best practices.
  • Supervise a department of quality assurance/compliance employees (future).
  • Report to work on-site in a regular and timely manner.

 

Knowledge/Skill/Ability Requirements

  • Previous banking/collections position preferred.
  • Experience level: 2+ years in similar Compliance or Legal position.
  • Education level: Bachelor’s degree in Business or similar, preferred.
  • Knowledge of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, Federal Consumer Credit Protection Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, and similar.
  • Experience developing and managing compliance strategies
  • Skilled in organization of activities and meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and concisely, both in written and verbal form, to employees at all levels within the firm.
  • Ability to train, supervise, and motivate subordinate employees in a positive manner.
  • Ability to take initiative in learning new concepts, seeking additional information, and asking questions of co-workers when uncertain.
  • Ability to prioritize a variety of tasks in a manner that enables timely completion.
  • Ability to utilize MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and other computer software programs in an efficient manner, and to search for help in the use of such programs independently via the internet.

 

Scheduling Requirements

  • Must be able to work a normal M-F schedule on site.
  • Physical, Mental, and Environmental Demands
  • Must be able to work in a seated or standing position, for periods up to and exceeding 8.0 hours per day.
  • Extensive use of a mouse and keyboard, and calculator.
  • Extended viewing of a computer screen.
  • Extensive use of a telephone.
