Position Overview:

We are in search of a dedicated biologist, ecologist, or environmental consultant to assist with projects focused on nature-based solutions. This role will primarily involve supporting regulatory compliance for environmental initiatives at various levels, including federal, state, and local jurisdictions. Key areas of focus will include fisheries science, conservation of protected species, floodplain management, wetland studies, habitat evaluations, and related permitting activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Collaborate with a dynamic team to aid federal agencies, state governments, local communities, tribes, and territories in enhancing resilience against natural disasters and environmental changes.
  2. Evaluate potential impacts of projects on wildlife and habitats, prepare compliance documentation, and conduct field surveys and desktop evaluations to assess the presence and impact on endangered species.
  3. Lead field teams in conducting surveys, assessments, and reviews of water quality, wetlands, and other ecologically significant areas.
  4. Perform comprehensive analyses to ensure all feasible alternatives are considered and document findings in detailed reports.
  5. Conduct site inspections to ensure compliance with environmental regulations, floodplain management laws, and executive orders.
  6. Contribute to the preparation of environmental assessments and impact statements.
  7. Provide technical guidance on evaluating effects on floodplains and wetlands to support compliance documentation.
  8. Mentor junior staff to enhance their technical skills and professional development.
  9. Assist in proposal preparation and provide expertise on technical methodologies.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline or related field with professional registration/certification, or a Master's degree in a relevant area.
  • A minimum of 7 years of related experience, with potential for domestic and/or international travel based on project needs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Expertise in fisheries science and wetland management.
  • 7 to 15 years of relevant experience.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Fisheries, Ecology, Wildlife Management, or a related field.
  • Strong technical writing skills and the ability to synthesize complex information into clear reports.
  • Certification or training in wetland delineation.
  • Field experience with special-status species surveys and habitat assessments, particularly in the western United States.
  • Experience with regulatory permitting, due diligence, and compliance monitoring.
  • Familiarity with CERCLA projects and federal/state regulations.
  • Experience with NEPA, ESA, and other applicable laws, including the preparation of necessary compliance documents.
