Job Summary

We are seeking an Environmental Compliance Specialist II to join our team at Los Alamos Technical Associates. This role will be responsible for ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and laws in the Site Environmental Compliance section.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the Management & Operating Contractor, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Carlsbad Field Office (CBFO), New Mexico Environment Department (NMED), U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and other environmental groups to ensure compliance with Federal, State, and local regulatory requirements.
  • Work with a group of professionals to generate biennial, annual, and semi-annual reports required by environmental regulations, permits, DOE Orders, and contract deliverables.
  • Conduct inspections and manage site-generated low-level, mixed low-level, and hazardous waste for off-site disposal.
  • Interface with regulatory agencies during inspections, new permit acquisition, and established permit requirements and modifications.
  • Sample waste containers for hazardous waste constituents and manage waste according to RCRA requirements.
  • Sample waste containers for low-level radioactive waste characterization and manage waste according to DOE requirements.
  • Generate and provide deliverables in collaboration with the Site Environmental Compliance group and Environmental Compliance Manager, including biennial hazardous waste reports, annual polychlorinated biphenyl reports, and annual Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act (SARA) Tier II reports.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Science, Engineering, or other technical area.
  • 1 to 3 years of experience in environmental compliance.
  • Broad knowledge of environmental laws and regulations.
  • Knowledge of sampling for hazardous constituents and RCRA requirements.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with other individuals and project groups.
  • Attention to detail and initiative.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office to prepare Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations, and reports.
