Work Environment:
This position requires on-site presence at a nuclear waste management facility. Per diem may be available for eligible candidates.


The facility serves as the only permanent repository for defense-related nuclear waste, ensuring that waste is securely stored over 2,000 feet underground within deep salt formations.


Key Responsibilities:

The selected candidate will be tasked with:

  • Conducting thorough inspections of electrical systems and installations to verify adherence to local, state, and national electrical regulations, including NFPA 70 and the National Electrical Code.
  • Collaborating with Field Engineers to prioritize inspections and provide guidance on installation practices to meet code requirements.
  • Evaluating design documents for feasibility and constructability.
  • Monitoring equipment installations and reviewing specifications, technical manuals, and data.
  • Performing additional electrical engineering responsibilities as needed.

Required Qualifications:

Candidates should possess:

  • A Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering is preferred, though a Professional Engineer license may substitute for the degree.
  • Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
  • Certification as an Electrical Inspector is advantageous.
  • Experience as an NEC Electrical Inspector is mandatory.
  • Familiarity with NFPA 70 and the National Electric Code (NEC) is essential.
  • Knowledge of NFPA70E, which pertains to Electrical Safety in the Workplace, is beneficial.
  • Experience with DOE, DOD, or commercial nuclear construction projects is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

Candidates must be capable of performing field inspections and participating in project walk-downs, which may involve:

  • Extensive walking throughout construction sites.
  • Climbing ladders and scaffolding, utilizing fall protection and personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Walking on elevated surfaces and uneven terrain.
  • Navigating confined spaces.
