SENIOR PROJECT ENGINEER, NETWORK/VOICE

Purpose

The Senior Network/Voice Project Engineer must effectively and efficiently drive toward successful network project integrations and professional IT Services to our valued client base. As a Tier 3 (and beyond) subject matter expert for network solutions, the project engineer provides technical oversight and ensures the project team produces the best possible outcomes for our clients through proper design and implementation. The Project Engineer's deeply specialized knowledge and skills help ensure Corsica's ability to solve even the most complex issues our clients face. The networking/voice expertise and guidance provided by this role are critical to winning client trust and building the long-term relationships Corsica seeks with all our clients.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities/expectations for this position include:

  • Serve as a Tier 3 resource and escalation point for the rest of the project team on networking/voice projects, as needed.
  • Provide mentorship and technical oversight to Project Technicians and support Project Engineers.
  • Provide project staging of equipment and software.
  • Provide network/voice analysis, response, and remediation support, as needed.
  • Maintain network/voice infrastructures across multiple clients and MSP/MSSP internal services.
  • Create tasks that are designed to either add functionality required by the company or to address ongoing network/voice failure issues.
  • Develop methods and tools to be used to test and implement to LAN/WAN equipment.
  • Build and develop Configurations for Network/Voice products.
  • Communicate effectively with both project management as well as client points of contact and end users.
  • Complete Project Implementation and Deployments.
  • Complete project assignments as tasked (onsite or remote).
  • Provide periodic project status updates.
  • Complete project discovery tasks to include site surveys and working with clients to understand their needs and then transition findings and client notes to Solutions/Design Engineering for project scoping.
  • Draft client recommendations to Solutions/Design Engineering, Technical Account Manager, and/or Client Success Manager for review with client. Provide best practices and simple network/voice designs.
  • Update project management software periodically with progress of project tasks and other assignments.
  • Post-project quality assurance testing assistance.
  • Serve as client point-of-contact for end user training of new systems deployed.
  • Maintain service software documentation and standards.
  • Work with other technical groups and engineers as required.
  • Evaluate existing processes and engineering improvements.
  • Complete additional Integrations team tasks as assigned by leadership.
  • Train team members on new technologies as required for Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 to take over support of clients post project.
  • Stay current with technology through ongoing education. Be open to investing time into new products from ANY vendor.
  • Participate in Service Strategy to assist Corsica in designing and supporting the best solutions for our clients.

Competencies and Qualities

Qualified candidates should have expertise with the following:

  • Key Networking (wired/wireless) and Voice Technologies/Vendors:
    1. Cisco UCX (Voice)
    2. Microsoft Teams (Voice)
    3. Fortinet suite of products (Networking)
    4. Cisco/Meraki suite of products (Networking)
    5. Other Firewall/Switch/Wireless vendor technologies (WatchGuard, SonicWall, HP, etc.)
  • Domain skills to include:
    1. TCP/IP stack
    2. Wired and wireless technologies. Cisco, Fortinet, HP, etc.
    3. Dynamic routing protocols, SLA, route tracking, and network policies
    4. Network management systems
    5. DHCP and DNS support in SMB and enterprise environments
    6. Network authentication and encryption methods
    7. VoIP technology and equipment

Additional knowledge of other technologies is beneficial:

  • Microsoft Windows Server
  • Active Directory and Group Policy Management
  • MS Azure Web Services
  • Microsoft Cloud Solutions such as Office 365, Exchange online, SharePoint, and OneDrive
  • Virtualization platforms such as Microsoft Hyper-V and VMware
  • Varied Client / Server applications

Education, Experience, and Certifications

Required

  • Bachelor's Degree in any IT related field OR equivalent technical certifications (Cisco CCNP, Fortinet NSE, etc.)
  • 6+ years of Network experience with implementation and support (see Key Networking and Voice Technologies, above)
  • Experience creating technical documentation

Preferred

  • Experience with Systems/Cloud technologies
  • Additional Technical Certifications

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but is expected to supervise work on the primary support board to ensure alignment with Corsica processes.

Work Environment

In most cases, work will be performed in a climate-controlled office space.

Travel

This position will require travel. Most travel will be regional. Occasional overnight travel should be expected. Must have valid driver’s license with clean driving history.

Physical Demands

  • Candidate should be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Job will require sitting for long periods of time, and may occasionally require bending, lifting, and driving.

Position Type/Expected Hours

This is a full-time position with a minimum expectation of 40 hours per week. Position may require some on call availability for special projects. Projects may require shifted work hours to complete based on client requirements. Projects may require after normal working hours (nights/weekend) work to be completed.
