Position Overview

The Accounts Receivable (AR) and Collections Clerk is responsible for handling day to day posting of payments, collections of past due accounts, and providing support to the accounting department and office. The AR and Collections Clerk will also be responsible for reconciling accounts, verifying and recording payments, preparing routine reports, and contacting customers on delinquent or problem accounts in a professional and customer friendly manner.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

·         Maintain or make contact with customers via phone, email, or standard mail, to collect payment on invoices.

·         Provide customer support by working with staff members in various departments to address or answer customer questions or concerns as they relate to accounts receivable functions..

·         Process credit card payments through electronic payment processing system.

·         Receive check payments and create bank deposit slips.

·         Record credit card and check payments in accounting software accordingly, ensuring information accurate and balances on batch reports.

·         Release credit holds as authorized, documenting any applicable information.

·         Create write offs in the accounting system, documenting applicable information as needed.

·         Update state tax rates in customer records as needed.

·         Maintain customer records in accounting software making sure information is up to date and accurate.

·         Filing, copying, and other general administrative duties.

·         Prepare accounting reports as requested.

·         Cross train with accounting staff and work with other department staff and managers to provide on-going support and encourage a collaborative teamwork environment.

·         Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications & Education

·         Associates degree with a focus in Accounting or equivalent in experience and knowledge.

·         3-5 years of experience in an accounting capacity.

·         Intermediate knowledge of Accounting principles and GAAP Accounting.

·         Proficiency in MS Applications, especially in the use of spreadsheets and/or accounting software.

·         Requires strong interpersonal and communication skills, including ability to maintain composure under pressure, interact routinely with others face-to-face, telephone, and through other communication methods (written/verbal) using active listening skills and teamwork.
