Job DescriptionJob Description

We are seeking a Senior Construction Inspector IV to join our team

Inspects construction methods and quality to ensure contractors build roadways, bridges, and related structures by following the plans and specifications. Keep track of project quantities and create daily work reports. Acts as a consultant regarding work progress and problem resolution. May serve as the only inspector on a construction project or assist in inspections on multiple construction activities for complex projects within a public roadway system. Trains others. Responds to a licensed professional engineer with full authority for work approval. Work requires contact with contractors and owner representatives. May perform material tests and manufacturing process inspections at fabrication sites. Employees at this level are responsible for establishing their work plan and setting priorities to meet objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor and are handled at the occurrence.

Responsibilities:

  • Calculates payments payment quantities.
  • Consults Consult with Project Engineers, resident project representatives, and contractors' superintendents on work progress and construction problems; reviews review equipment utilization data and time/cost estimates.
  • Ensures adequate levels of equipment and materials are assigned to projects; ensures material tests are performed and materials meet required standards.
  • Drives to project sites to ensure contractors build roadways, bridges, and related highway structures and airport improvements following plans and specifications.
  • Monitors project phasing and traffic control plans or airport closure plans and ensures compliance with approved safety standards; inspects barricades as required and moves traffic control devices and barricades.
  • Observes Observe and inspects inspect ongoing construction work.
  • Performs drafting, design, and surveying work.
  • Assists in engineering-related data collection, inspections, assessments, analysis, and review activities for plan development by others.
  • Trains and mentors less experienced inspectors on work methods.
  • Mentors and develops technical employees in test and inspection procedures and material specifications.
  • Documents work progress and issues arising throughout the scope of the project.
  • Informs plant personnel of material or production problems, rejects substandard material, and assists in determining the cause of material problems.
  • Analyzes procedures to identify deficiencies and recommends improvements to management.
  • Interprets plans and specifications and negotiates with producers and suppliers to resolve differences.
  • Review construction records, inspection reports, and records audits to ensure contractors build roadways, bridges, and related structures in accordance with plans and specifications.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
  • Attends pre-construction meetings and answers questions from contractors and other attendees.
  • May assist in planning and coordinating office operations.
  • Ensures inspectors turn in monthly estimates accurately and timely to facilitate payments to contractors.

 

​​Qualifications:

  • 10 years in construction, maintenance, construction inspection, engineering support, materials, or process inspection.
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Competencies:

  • Applicable governmental laws, rules, and regulations specific to the area of responsibility for safeguarding information and information technology-related systems.
  • Applicable inspection methods, procedures, and techniques.
  • Applicable testing methods, processes, and procedures.
  • Basic roadway design.
  • The Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
  • Applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Persuasion and negotiation of critical issues.
  • Reading and interpreting applicable plans, schematics, blueprints, and maps.
  • Performing calculations using algebra, trigonometry, and geometry.
  • Maintaining a safe working environment.
  • Preparing and maintaining confidential and sensitive records, files, and reports.
  • Using computers and applicable programs, applications, and systems.
  • Communicate effectively.
  • Move up to 50 pounds (See essential duties for example of items to be moved).

Licenses and Certification:

  • Valid Driver Driver's License at time of application
  • This is a Safety Impact position (either Safety Impact, Commercial Driver, and/or Vessel Crew Member) and will be subject to random drug testing.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Required to respond on nights and weekends in emergency situations.
  • Required to work weekends and holidays.
  • Required to work hours other than 8 to 5.
  • Required to respond during emergency operations.
  • Required to work under exposure to inclement weather conditions.
  • Required to wear personal protective equipment provided by the employer and comply with all safety requirements.
  • Must attend work regularly and observe approved work hours.
