Job DescriptionJob DescriptionLocation:                            West Palm Beach, FL Classification:                   Full-time, Hourly, Non-Exempt  Report to:                          Executive Director POSITION SUMMARY: The Director of Development is responsible developing and implementing a comprehensive donor relations and fundraising program that includes major gifts, corporate and foundation giving, planned giving, grants, and fundraising events. The position works closely with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to develop fundraising goals and strategies. The Director of Development is a highly visible position, responsible for developing, soliciting, and strengthening relationships with donors, corporate sponsors, partners, foundations, and granting organizations. The Director of Development actively supports and promotes the Garden’s mission to inspire and educate through nature. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONBILITIES: 
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising plan to meet the organization’s annual revenue goals.
  • Identify, cultivate, expand, and manage major gift prospects, as well as corporate and foundation donors.
  • Research and identify potential grant opportunities, and conduct all stages of the grant process, including solicitation, writing, and submitting LOIs and grants, and managing grant reporting.
  • Plan, expand, and execute fundraising events that engage donors and raise funds for the organization, including the Garden’s annual Spring Benefit. 
  • Collaborate with marketing and communications team to develop and execute effective donor communications and marketing materials.
  • Work closely with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to develop fundraising strategies and goals.
  • Assist Executive Director and Board of Directors in establishing a strong Development Committee, and actively participate in Committee to achieve its goals. 
  • Serve as lead for Capital Campaign fundraising efforts.
  • Maintain accurate records of all prospecting activities in Blackbaud’s Altru platform.
  • Maintain all donor recognition information.
  • Monitor and analyze fundraising data to evaluate performance and adjust strategies as needed.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES: 
  • Bachelor’s Degree is required, preferably in nonprofit management, business administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising in South Florida, with a proven track record of success in major gifts, corporate and foundation giving, grants, and special events. 
  • Excellent research, writing, and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write compelling donor communications and grants.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with experience managing a team of fundraising professionals.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, Board members, and volunteers.
  • Experience with Blackbaud’s Altru fundraising and donor database platform preferred.
  • A deep commitment to the mission, vision, and values of our organization.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS: 
  • Must be available to work special events outside of normal working hours.
