Overview:

Small machines

They may be MFG 15 products today, and MFG all new products tomorrow – different tomorrow

Lots of testing

Chemical Lab

Techs need to know what they did for the day – what they actually did – not the function they performed

Knowledge: PH adjustments to the batch (what is the PH range, match what goes with it)

Lots of actions regarding PH – not just for reporting – what action to take next

What do they know about PH? What? Why? How? Not looking to train

PH meter

Instrument Used: Karl Fisher machine (what is it and how to use it)

Temperature Scales: Centigrade & Fahrenheit temperature (what is the difference?)

Not looking for a Chemist

Science education background / Physics/ Biology / basic chemistry

  • Chilled Water Bath
  • Oven testing inside the oven in the lab
  • % salt in water – know how to find out – calculate & understand what to do
  • High temperature furnace
  • Run lab batch in the lab first to test new batches
  • MSDS – be familiar and know what they are
  • Manual titrations - Manual Titrations: To perform a manual titration, it is required to have a Class A glass burette, standardized titrant, sample, color indicator, and an individual to perform the task. However, this technique can only yield accurate and reproducible results when performed by a skilled technician.
  • Pull samples – must physically go to the tank, tanker, tote, drum or other container and pull the sample, then bring the sample back to the lab for processing & analyzing – then log the information
  • Must write legibly
  • Must be able to read the procedure
  • Word Phrase & reasoning – must be able to understand and figure out word phrases
  • Math skills – Must have solid math skills required to do the job
  • Acids & Bases – must know them
  • Blends / Centrifuge / Check Colors
