PROGRAM OVERVIEW:

The ReFresh Spot is a community-driven project, that aims to bring dignity and hope through increased access to personal hygiene services for Skid Row residents experiencing homelessness. Homeless Health Care Los Angeles is the lead agency and fiscal sponsor for the project and works in collaboration with subcontractor, Social Model Recovery Services. The ReFresh Spot is comprised of three components: hygiene services, supportive services, and community engagement.

The ReFresh Spot is a safe, non-judgmental environment with no barriers to access to restrooms, handwashing, showers, laundromat services, phone charging, drinking water, and linkage to community-based resources. Overall, the project focuses on increasing the physical, mental health, and overall wellness of individuals experiencing homelessness. Project goals include:

  • Increase access to personal hygiene services in the Skid Row community
  • Increase a sense of belonging among residents while living on the streets
  • Increase workforce opportunities for Skid Row residents.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Registration Specialist works under the direction of the Program Manager and is part of a multidisciplinary team, mental health professionals, community ambassadors, and other practitioners. The ReFresh Spot hygiene center provides safe, accessible restrooms and showers for guests experiencing homelessness in Skid Row 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. A laundry facility, resource navigation, and referrals are also provided. The Registration Specialist position works to improve the overall health and well-being of people experiencing homelessness by assisting with coordinating linkages to medical care, mental health care, substance use treatment, housing/shelter resources, and other supportive services. A primary role of the Registration Specialist is to welcome guests when entering the ReFresh Spot at the front check in area and ensuring all needs are met to the best of abilities. Additional data may be asked of program participants that will need to be captured, collected, and tracked, in accordance to funder requirements. This position requires evening and weekend hours, for a total of 37.5 hours per week.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Implements and consistently practices harm reduction, trauma-informed care, housing first philosophy, and integrated care interventions.
  • Conducts street outreach and participates in community/agency outreach events to engage the community.
  • Coordinates referrals to community resources to best support client needs.
  • Develops relationships with representatives in other agencies to support individuals in attaining services including housing, mental health care, medical care/treatment, financial assistance, legal advocacy/counsel, and other community resources.
  • Utilizes the HMIS system to check guests in.
  • Provides referrals and warm handoffs to interim/bridge housing options as needed.
  • Provides support and links guests to electronic homelessness programs, such as CES and HMIS Systems.
  • Able to serve a diverse, vulnerable client population and communicate effectively in a culturally competent manner.
  • Able to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment, utilizing professional, open and respectful communication. Maintains a solution-focused, strengths-based, and client-centered approach with managers, Directors, colleagues, co-workers, partners, and clients/guests of HHCLA/ReFresh Spot.
  • Ensures performance management standards are met through ongoing supervision addressing barriers as they arise.
  • Maintains client records according to HIPPA and adheres to all client confidentiality requirements and standards.
  • Attends and participates in all required contractual, agency, and professional development trainings.
  • Complies and maintains familiarity with agency and program policies and procedures and other applicable regulations.
  • Attends and participates in supervision, staff meetings, trainings, conferences, workshops, and special projects to promote professional development.
  • Models HHCLA approach, mission and core values in all communication, correspondence, community events, coalitions and advocacy efforts.
  • Reports to work on time and maintains reliable and regular attendance.
  • Maintains current licensing and/or certification as required for position.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

REQUIRED

Education and Work Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, public health, psychology, sociology or other related field; OR a minimum of five years’ experience working in the homelessness service arena, housing, and with culturally diverse populations, including co-occurring diagnosis and homelessness, and case management and/or administrative experience
