Academic Support Center Peer Tutor

We are seeking a tutor who will assist PCCC students in academic achievement by meeting them on a regular basis to address course concerns, develop formal writing ability, and improve study skills. Tutors work flexible schedules and students schedule their appointments around the tutor's availability. Tutoring is offered to improve the academic retention & completion of PCCC students visiting the Academic Support Center.
Examples of Duties:
- Meet with students on a one-to-one, small-group, drop-in, or classroom tutoring format(s) to give learning assistance.
- Each semester provides the Assistant Dean with a weekly schedule of when you are available for work.
- If unable to keep your scheduled appointment, cancel through Microsoft Bookings at least 24 hours in advance.
- Exchange contact information with students to contact them directly with schedule changes.
- Inform Assistant Dean if you have cancelled a session or permanently changed the schedule.
- Wait at least 10 minutes for students to appear for their appointment.
- Contact instructors, if necessary, to obtain course syllabi or materials or to discuss the curriculum.
- Attend mandatory tutor-training sessions as required by the Assistant Dean.
- Assist with additional duties as needed, for example, covering front desk, assisting with new student welcome activities, organizing materials, and performing other clerical duties.
Qualifications:
- Must be a PCCC student
- Student earned at least a grade "B" in their writing courses.
- Overall grade point average of 3.0.
- Good communication skills - able to get along with a wide range of personalities and academic skill levels.
- Reliable; this is a job, and the tutors need an excellent attendance record.
The completion of the background check will be required for the selected candidate.
