One of our Valued Clients, a specialized firm providing Geotechnical, Environmental, Water Resources, Civil Design, and Construction Services throughout the project delivery life cycle from conceptual planning to permitting, design, engineering, and construction management, is looking to add to their Nor or SoCal Team

 

They seek a Practice Leader (Construction, Infrastructure), preferably in one of the Northern or Southern Californian offices.


The Candidate shall have a degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization among the following disciplines: geotechnical engineering, geological engineering, hydrology and hydraulics, or structural engineering, and a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.

 

This position will provide technical expertise and collaborate with our existing network of dam engineering professionals to help grow their national Dams and Hydraulic Structures Engineering practice in the Region and contribute to innovative and challenging projects involving heavy-civil works and hydraulic structures such as embankment and concrete dams, spillways, outlet works, conveyance systems, river navigation locks and flood walls.

 

Essential Responsibilities & Duties:

 

· Work on large dam replacement or modification projects in California, with construction values ranging from $100M to over $1B.

· Lead and be responsible for project-specific, third-party CM teams comprised of GEI staff and sub-consultants, with functions including but not limited to construction contract administration, resident engineering, office engineering, construction quality assurance, construction inspection, field surveying, materials testing, change management, cost and schedule analysis, document control, environmental compliance monitoring and public outreach.

· Develop and implement project-specific plans for Construction Management, Quality Management, Health and Safety, Communications etc. in accordance with GEI and Owner policies.

· Understand and support regulatory requirements and compliance for California dam projects, including DSOD, FERC, and CEQA, among others.

· Take the lead in communicating and coordinating with Owner, Designer, and Contractor to anticipate and expeditiously resolve construction-related issues including but not limited to cost overruns, schedule delays, procurement delays, quality deficiencies, regulatory non-compliance, environmental non-compliance, change orders, operational impacts and public complaints.

· Be based on-site full-time during project execution, or as appropriate for project and Owner needs.

· Mentor and guide staff to develop their CM skills during project execution.

· Lead additional CM services as needed including but not limited to Risk Management, Dispute Resolution and Claims Analysis.

· Support company’s engineering and design teams on other projects as-needed by providing input to constructability reviews of design plans and specifications, biddability review of contract documents, construction cost estimates and schedules, contractor prequalification and review of contractor bids.

 

 

 

Qualifications:

 

· 10-15 years or more of previous related professional experience (experience in dam construction)

· Proven, successful experience as a Lead CM for large, complex public works projects.

· Excellent interpersonal, communication, writing, team leadership, and conflict resolution skills.

· Capability to be based on-site full-time during construction phase.

· Familiarity with MS Office, MS Project, Primavera P6, and other typical construction management related software.

· Ability to take and pass all GEI required construction safety related training courses.

· Physically able to participate or perform construction site inspections.

· Willing to travel to jobsites. Total travel up to 60% time.

· Valid U.S. driver’s license.

· Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering or related discipline

· Qualified as Professional Engineer (PE) in California

· Qualified as Certified Construction Manager (CCM)
