Key Responsibilities:

As a Senior Structures Engineer, you will be expected to:
  • Oversee or perform structural analyses, evaluations, and designs; develop design alternatives or recommendations.
  • Lead or assist in the preparation of contract documents, including drawings, specifications, and design criteria.
  • Direct the design of new hydraulic structures and the rehabilitation of existing ones, such as dams, spillways, gates, and retaining walls.
  • Engage in engineering tasks that require innovative thinking to address unique structural challenges without specific code guidance.
  • Coordinate structural design efforts with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Work autonomously as a project manager while mentoring junior staff and contributing to the growth of HDR's structural engineering services.
  • Review the work of colleagues, ensuring compliance with design standards and thoroughness in calculations and assumptions.
  • Be open to various locations for this position.
  • Perform additional duties as required.
Qualifications:

Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in structural design and analysis.
  • Proven experience leading structural design projects, including analysis, reporting, and construction support.
  • California PE or SE licensure.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, Mathcad, SAP2000, or similar analytical tools.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and writing skills, along with a commitment to our employee-owned culture.
Preferred:
  • Master's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, with a focus on structures.
  • Field experience in construction, inspection, or related instrumentation.
  • Knowledge of structural, seismic, and risk assessment practices related to dam safety design and construction.
  • Experience with finite element modeling and seismic dynamic analysis techniques.
