Job Title: Compliance Officer/Environmental Health & Safety Specialist
Location: Janesville, WI
Department: Operations
Reports To: VP of Operations

Job Summary:

The Compliance Officer/EHS Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing environmental, health, and safety programs to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and company standards. This role involves conducting inspections, providing training, and driving initiatives to promote a safe and environmentally responsible workplace.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Regulatory Compliance:
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local EHS regulations and standards.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant EHS laws and regulations.
  • Prepare and submit required reports to regulatory agencies.
  1. Safety Program Management:
  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive safety programs and policies.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify potential hazards.
  • Lead investigations of workplace accidents, incidents, and near-misses, and implement corrective actions.
  1. Training and Development:
    • Design and deliver EHS training programs for employees at all levels.
    • Keep training materials updated and ensure that all staff are aware of EHS policies and procedures.
  2. Environmental Management:
    • Oversee environmental management programs related to waste management, pollution prevention, and resource conservation.
    • Conduct environmental impact assessments and ensure proper documentation and reporting.
  3. Emergency Response:
    • Develop and maintain emergency response plans and procedures.
    • Coordinate emergency drills and ensure staff are trained in emergency response protocols.
  4. Documentation and Reporting:
    • Maintain accurate records of EHS activities, inspections, and incidents.
    • Prepare and present EHS reports to management and regulatory bodies as required.
  5. Continuous Improvement:
    • Monitor and analyze EHS performance metrics and identify areas for improvement.
    • Recommend and implement strategies to enhance EHS performance and compliance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with a focus in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, Training and Development, or a related field. (Relevant certifications, such as CSP or CIH, are a plus.)
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in EHS roles, preferably in Food Manufacturing.
  • In-depth knowledge of EHS regulations, standards, and best practices.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and EHS management software.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to conduct site inspections, including walking, climbing, and lifting as needed.
  • Ability to respond to emergencies and participate in emergency response activities.
  • Ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds.

Working Conditions:

  • Primarily office-based with frequent production floor visits
  • Will involve exposure to cold, hot and wet environmental conditions.
  • May involve exposure to hazardous materials.
