Full Time – Non-Exempt
1. General Description
Serves preteens, teenagers, and young adults in St Joseph and Elkhart counties by providing education and support in a variety of areas, including, but not limited to, racial justice, dating violence, domestic violence, healthy relationships, financial literacy, and job readiness. Ensures that services include LGBTQ population and at-risk youth. Provides psycho-educational groups and one-on-one support.
2. Reporting Relationship
The Community Outreach Advocate reports to the Director of Children’s Services, as well as collaborates regularly with the Director of Empowerment Services regarding aspects of programming.
3. Supervises
The Community Outreach Advocate does not have supervision responsibilities.
4. Responsibilities and Essential Functions
· Facilitates psycho-educational groups and one-on-one education to preteens, teenagers and college students in a variety of areas including racial justice, dating violence, domestic violence, healthy relationships, financial literacy, and job readiness.
· Establishes and develops contacts with other agencies and partners in the community serving preteens, teenagers and college students, including local middle schools, high schools, alternative schools, colleges, juvenile justice centers, and juvenile probation.
· Facilitates specific outreach efforts to reach underserved populations including LGBTQ and at-risk preteens, teenagers and college students.
· Helps plan activities for Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month (February).
· Participates in staff meetings and in-service trainings, attends workshops and seminars outside agency, particularly related to dating violence, date rape and racial justice.
· Works with the Development team to execute and plan social media campaigns to change social norms regarding dating violence and promote racial justice.
· Participates in community events regarding racial justice, domestic violence, and dating violence.
· Helps develop YWCA website resources for preteens, teenagers and college students.
· Provides training to other area professionals as necessary.
· Tracks data necessary for grant reporting.
· Performs other duties as assigned.
5. Education and Experience
Undergraduate degree in psychology, sociology or related field, one to three years experience in related field or other appropriate combination of education and experience.
6. Knowledge and Ability
Public speaking skills, ability to work with diverse populations, ability to relate to preteens, teenagers, and young adults. Must be organized and a efficient with time management. Technologically savvy. Knowledge of intervention crisis techniques and practices, thorough knowledge of community agency resources and procedures, ability to prepare accurate and informative client records, communicates well and functions as part of a team, makes decisions based on the policies and procedures developed by the YWCA, establishes and maintains harmonious interpersonal relationships exhibiting tact, integrity, and good judgment.
