San Francisco, United States Superstar Health Education Full time
Job DescriptionJob Description

About Superstar

Superstar Health Education is a small business based in San Francisco that teaches super-gender-inclusive health education to kids, youth and adults all around the Bay Area.

We're committed to medically accurate, age-appropriate, shame-free, comprehensive sexuality education. Grounded in our anti-oppression philosophy, our work encourages people to make informed decisions about caring for their bodies and being sexually healthy.

Our educators teach in many different environments and contexts, but the majority of our work is teaching puberty education for late elementary age students and comprehensive sexual health for middle schoolers.

About the Role

Superstar Educators work on a small team which meets monthly in San Francisco to cross-train and plan visits to schools. Beyond those meetings, each educator works independently as a guest teacher at various Bay Area schools as assigned.

They store materials and supplies at their home and bring them along to each school site, where they deliver either Superstar’s Puberty Education Program or its Inclusive Health Education Program, adapting the curriculum as needed and consulting the Superstar Program Manager and Director as required. They will also occasionally be assigned support tasks such as outreach and sales, researching sexual health topics and reporting back to the team, and developing new instructional activities.

What we’re looking for

We value a balance of workshop and teaching experience, self directed research and outreach experience, sex education skill, and experience in diverse communities. Superstar Sex Educators will have the following qualifications:

- Fluent in both Spanish and English. In this case, fluency is defined as the ability to converse and teach smoothly in both languages. Experience with simultaneous interpretation is helpful but not required.
- Able to present accurate information in developmentally appropriate ways.
- Comfort and skill in public speaking.
- Excellent classroom management and teaching skills
- Cultural competency and anti oppression analysis in order to teach in a wide variety of settings.
- Willing to work a flexible schedule that includes early mornings, afternoons, and a few evenings and nights.
- Ideal applicants will be either AASECT Certified, Planned Parenthood Certified, SFSI trained, have a Sexual Health Educator Certificate, a Masters in Human Sexuality, or equivalent experience. Qualified applicants may not have one of the above, but have significant classroom teaching experience with various age groups, are comfortable teaching about bodies and sexuality, and have a willingness to learn the material.
- People with motorcycles/scooters or a willingness to learn to ride are especially encouraged to apply. Access to some sort of vehicle is required, as many of the schools we serve are not accessible via transit. Mileage, beyond a base commute, is paid.

Valuable Extra Skills:

In addition to classroom teaching, this position involves some hours completing other vital tasks - exactly what those are depends on the skills and proclivities of each educator. Ideal applicants will have skills and experience that fit one of the sub-roles, listed here from the most to least essential:

- Sales and Marketing
- Administration
- Curriculum and Activity Creation
- Social Media Management and Content Creation
- App Development
- Website Development

Compensation and Benefits

Paid as a regular W-2 employee, at a salary equivalent to $35/hour to $45/hour, depending on experience and capacity. The position is for 25 hours/week for 30 weeks of the year (approximately September through May). This works out to a gross salary range of $26,250 to $33,750 (a full-time equivalent rate of $72,800 to $93,600 annually).

Benefits:
Opportunities for advancement and a rapid increase in pay. 40 sick hours per year. One week paid vacation and an option to take another unpaid week off during the school year. Emergency fund offered annually to all employees. Opportunities to earn bonuses/commission in addition to hourly wage. Superstar cannot offer health benefits, but has access to a free health insurance broker which can assist employees with finding the most affordable healthcare available.

Our Values and Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion

Superstar believes that our team should be reflective of the communities most impacted by gender injustice. We strongly encourage people of color, LGBTQIA+ people, transgender and gender nonconforming individuals, and formerly incarcerated individuals to apply.

We are an equal opportunity employer and we recruit and hire with an understanding of the lived realities of people who have experienced systemic oppression.
