SUMMARY

  • The successful candidate’s primary function and role will deal with the conception, design and development of CNC Lathe Processes integrated with robotics. This position will serve as liaison between the other professionals on many projects and the Manufacturing department.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To support new equipment development activities for Connections as it relates to improving the process and sustainment of any implemented solutions.
  • To diagnose and trouble shoot any issues for equipment/automation and general equipment downtime.
  • Support management of continuous improvement projects including active participation in Kaizen events as well as kaizen/lean implementation
  • Participate in fixture design, equipment selection and shop floor layout
  • Process Engineering support of stable manufacturing processes to meet customer requirements.
  • Project Management support of new or complex projects and products through the shop in conjunction with operations managers, including but not limited to new equipment implementation, CNC program development, robotic development and raw material improvements.
  • Opening of Jobs in ERP system.
  • Learn and analyse process capabilities.
  • Tooling specification and design support.
  • Requesting purchase of materials / outsource services for jobs.
  • Work with the Quality Department to communicate QA inspection and reporting requirements and help trouble shoot QA issues
  • Work with Production to provide job routings and tooling

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and QUALIFICATIONS

  • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering
  • 3 years relevant experience working in a metalworking environment preferred
  • Familiarization of in ERP systems
  • Good computer skills and understanding of CAD/3D modelling.
  • Individual must have good written and oral communication skills and interpersonal skills. 
  • An ability to work cooperatively with peers to achieve goals is essential.
  • Operational Excellence familiarization
  • A basic understanding of CNC Lathes (programming and possibly mills) and automation experience preferred
  • A basic understanding of robotic systems and machine integration. i.e. FANUC arms, etc
  • Measurement systems knowledge (CMM, Faro Arm, Comparators, etc) and basic understanding of precision instrument use
  • Basic knowledge of welding systems preferred – (Tig, MiG, automatic welders, stainless steel, exotics (Inconel, SASS)
  • ISO 9001 understanding.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Sitting (Working at a desk) and/or - up to 8 hrs./day
  • Walking - up to 6 hrs./day
  • Lifting - up to 40 lbs. with good body mechanics (lifting devices are used for heavier loads)
  • Twisting and Bending - 1-120 twists/day
  • Moderate deviations of the wrists with multiple hand/wrist repetitions/day
  • Frequent use of both hands
  • Accurate vision (20/20) (can be with or without the assistance of corrective lenses)
  • Minimal color discrimination and depth perception

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Plant/Shop/Field Services:
    • Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; and risk of electrical shock.
    • Regularly exposed to wet and humid conditions (outside weather conditions); high, precarious places; extreme cold; extreme heat and vibration.
    • Occasionally exposed to the risk of radiation or electrical shock.
    • The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.
  • Office:
    • Normally work in an office environment or from home as needed by the business; however, occasionally may work at a branch location or manufacturing facility.
    • Occasionally may be exposed to hazards such as loud noise, heavy equipment, temperature extremes, chemicals, etc., while visiting a branch location or manufacturing facility.
    • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
