Title: Collection Specialist

Location: Auburn Hills, MI

Job Summary: The Collection Specialist acts as a liaison between the company and our customers to collect debts and resolve outstanding balances. Duties include monitoring customer accounts and A/R agings, contacting customers to notify them of overdue payments, documenting all collection calls, and reporting collections activities. The Collection Specialist is a working team member and individual contributor to the overall team’s success.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor the company’s accounts receivable agings daily; make collection calls following standard company procedure, notifying the Branch Manager and Account Manager as to all issues that present themselves through the collection call process; this includes proper documentation of all calls
  • Advise customers on their payment options and suggest methods of payment
  • Maintain records of contact and attempted contact with customers as well as records of any payments collected from the customer
  • Send statements to customers on a monthly basis; confirm customer account balances match statement balance and resolve discrepancies as required
  • Work with the A/R Team and Sales Team to resolve customer issues and complaints concerning invoicing
  • Submit regular reports on the status of unpaid accounts and any repayment progress
  • Manage the lien/bond process for all locations, including timely execution of written notices as required by the job type and location to ensure the company’s ability to collect all monies due
  • Work with the A/R Team to monitor, post, and report on all daily customer payments and credits
  • Submit A/R aging reports to internal customers for review and feedback
  • Lead weekly collection calls with branch personnel and document meeting details
  • Research and implement effective collection techniques
  • Respond to client account inquiries in a timely and professional manner
  • Adhere to all applicable company policies and procedures as well as applicable company and regulatory agency environmental, health and safety standards
  • Ensure that The Mersino Way is a guiding document in all daily activities

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Associate’s degree in business or related field preferred
  • Three years of experience in credit and collections work required Specific Expectations
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Basic understanding of local, state, and federal debt collection laws
  • Basic understanding of principles and processes of customer service
  • Ability to multi-task in a changing environment
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule to meet job requirements
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Requires intermittent periods during which continuous physical exertion is required, such as walking, standing, stooping, climbing, lifting material or equipment, some of which may be heavy or awkward
