Overview:

Our client, a government agency focused on transportation, is seeking a highly qualified Director of Command Center Operations to join their dynamic team. This role is critical in overseeing and managing the performance of the Operations Command Center, ensuring the delivery of top-notch services, compliance with regulations and safety protocols, and effective management of service disruptions. The Director will also be responsible for fostering positive employee and labor relations. Safety is a top priority in this role, along with the ability to exercise effective leadership and efficiently manage the Operations Command Center staff to align with agency goals. Moreover, the Director will be entrusted with the development of programs related to the technical systems of the Operations Command Center. Additionally, the selected candidate will represent the agency in engagements with various stakeholders and hold responsibility for managing budgets and operational forecasts within the department. This is a long-term, direct hire opportunity located in the vibrant city of Portland, Oregon.

Responsibilities:

  • Direct and manage the performance of the Operations Command Center to ensure high-quality service delivery for the transportation system
  • Manage service disruptions to maintain high-quality service delivery to customers
  • Ensure regulatory compliance, adherence to safety and operating rules, and a commitment to safety as a fundamental value
  • Provide effective leadership and management of Operations Command Center staff, fostering a culture of open communication, employee participation, and professional development.
  • Develop and maintain cost-effective delivery of all Operations Command Center services, including technical systems like transportation dispatch, control, CCTV, and mobile computing systems
  • Collaborate in the development and administration of emergency service plans and communication for internal and external stakeholders
  • Represent the organization with public and elected officials, business leaders, and community groups
  • Control, monitor, and approve budgets and operational forecasts for the department


Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in public administration, Transportation/Logistics, Transportation/Urban Planning, or related field
  • 8+ years of related experience required
  • 5+ years of experience in radio dispatch and control center operations required AND
  • 3+ years of management experience in a manager-level or higher role in control center and/or transportation operations required
  • Must have command center experience with emergency management response involving both a fleet and personnel
  • Familiarity with transportation dispatch, control, CCTV, and mobile computing systems preferred
  • Experience with emergency service planning and incident response preferred
  • Knowledge of industry best practices, SOP development, and KPI reporting preferred
  • Strong collaboration skills required
  • Excels in advanced thinking, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Outstanding verbal and written skills, and experience working with external and internal stakeholders on all levels
  • Valid driver’s license required
