The Teachers Retirement System of Georgia (TRSGA) is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Retirement Operations Specialist to join our team. Under the general supervision of the Operations Manager, the incumbent will perform a variety of duties related to the calculation and administration of new retiree and death benefits. Responsibilities include preparing correspondence, processing applications, and providing high-quality customer service to members.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION
- Minimum of two-year associate degree and/or experience in technical bookkeeping, accounting, auditing, claims adjusting, eligibility determination or reviewing and analyzing requests for determination of retirement benefits or other related benefits;
- Equivalent combination of education and experience.
PREFERRED ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of operating basic computer operating system and equipment;
- Basic arithmetic; and clerical accounting methods, procedures and terminology.
- Ability to analyze data and determine correct information for benefits.
- Ability is required to communicate effectively; and, to determine when specific laws should be applied to certain types of benefits, rollovers and disbursements.
- Ability is required to take initiative to solve problems; to resolve complex issues involving retirement benefits; and to make independent decisions in accordance with laws, rules and regulations and applying policies to difficult problems.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Eligibility Determination: Evaluate eligibility for retirement and death benefits.
- Benefit Calculation: Analyze data to ensure accurate benefit calculations and compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Documentation Review: Assess retirement forms for authenticity, accuracy, and completeness.
- Customer Service: Offer prompt and friendly service to members, beneficiaries, and employers.
- Workflow Management: Handle a high volume of work while maintaining quality and meeting payroll deadlines.
- Communication: Provide clear and accurate information through various communication channels.
- Other Duties: Perform additional tasks as assigned.
SPECIALIZED DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Reviews and analyzes various records and other information to accurately determine retirement benefits, beneficiary benefit estimates, service credit, death benefits and other related information.
- Applies appropriate equations and methods for determining benefits, beneficiary benefit estimates, years of service, and various service and purchase credits available to members in cooperation with agency management.
- Provides timely and accurate information in person, on the telephone or in writing to all members and agencies of the system.
- Verifies contribution data and service credit submitted to agency are correct and member’s information for calculations are correct.
