ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION:

The Arizona Commerce Authority (ACA) is the state's leading economic development organization with a streamlined mission to grow and strengthen Arizona’s economy. ABOUT THE ROLE:

The ACA fulfills a crucial convening and coordinating role among economic stakeholders, including conducting outreach to businesses, federal, state, tribal, and local governments, workforce partners and more. The Director of Legislative Affairs takes the lead to devise and implement the ACA’s outreach and legislative strategy with a focus on advancing sound economic policy and ensuring maximum coordination among our partners.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Legislative monitoring: Track and analyze legislative and regulatory developments that may impact ACA or Arizona businesses. Provide timely updates and key information to ACA leadership team.
  • Outreach: Develop a comprehensive outreach strategy to ensure effective alignment among ACA and key economic stakeholders.
  • Policy Development: Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to develop policy ideas and advocacy strategies.
  • When necessary, provide ACA leadership policy specific briefs and materials related to legislative activity, such as hearings.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain a network of contacts within government agencies, industry associations, and
  • advocacy groups, and more. Facilitate meetings and discussions between key stakeholders and government officials.
  • Represent ACA and stakeholder Interests: Represent the ACA at the local, state, and federal government levels. Develop and maintain relationships with key policymakers and respective staff members.
  • Communication: Act as main point of contact for the ACA with the Governor’s Office, Arizona Legislature, local governments, state agencies, federal agencies, and with Arizona Congressional members and staff.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other ACA team members to ensure a cohesive approach to government relations.
  • Drafting: Prepare, review, and edit updates for internal and external communications.

COMPETENCY, EDUCATIONAL & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in political science, or other related field of study, and/or the equivalent work experience and have a passion for the legislative arena.
  • Minimum three (3) years of work experience evidencing a background in lobbying, fundraising, legislative affairs, policy development, or grassroots coordination.
  • Superb communication skills, the ability to grasp complex subjects and an interest in legislative affairs.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills; highly collaborative team approach to work.
  • Ability to gain credibility and establish the required relationships to influence and generate results; can quickly organize and influence teams to execute and deliver results.
  • Strategic vision, a self-starter mentality, and keen ability to pursue objectives independently.
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite and web-based technologies.
  • Ability to work outside of regular business hours, including occasional nights and weekends.
