Building Bridges Across the River provides residents East of the Anacostia River access to the best-in-class facilities, programs, and partnerships in arts and culture, economic opportunity, education, recreation, health, and well-being. Building Bridges Across the River envisions a future in which the residents East of the Anacostia River experience vital, thriving communities characterized by social, cultural, economic, and racial equity. In order to combat past and current structural inequities, Building Bridges develops and manages facilities and programs in Wards 7 and 8 including the Town Hall Education Arts Recreation Campus (THEARC), Building Bridges Farm, THEARC Theater, 11th Street Bridge Park, and Skyland Workforce Center. Building Bridges first facility was THEARC, which at 203,000 square feet represents the largest social service, multisector, nonprofit collaboration in the country.

Summary: The Facilities Maintenance Tech under the supervision of the Vice President of Operations and Shift Supervisor is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and functionality of the facility. This includes general cleaning, specialized floor care, and routine maintenance tasks to ensure a clean, safe, and operational environment for employees and visitors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Commercial Cleaning:

    • Clean and sanitize restrooms, break rooms, and other common areas.
    • Dust and wipe down surfaces, including desks, tables, and counters.
    • Empty trash and recycling bins.
    • Replenish supplies such as toilet paper, soap, and paper towels.
    • Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors.
    • Operate cleaning equipment such as vacuums, floor scrubbers, strippers, and carpet cleaners.
    • Report any maintenance issues or safety hazards to the supervisor.
    • Vacuum, Sweep, mop, strip, wax, and polish floors.
    • Operate and maintain floor cleaning equipment including buffers, auto scrubbers, and burnishers.
    • Perform routine floor maintenance and deep cleaning as scheduled.
    • Follow safety procedures and use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
    • Assist with general cleaning tasks as needed.
    • Maintain cleaning equipment and report any maintenance needs.
  • Maintenance Technician:

    • Perform routine maintenance tasks such as replacing light bulbs, fixing plumbing issues, and repairing equipment.
    • Conduct inspections to identify and resolve issues before they become problems.
    • Maintain records of maintenance and repair work.
    • Respond to maintenance requests in a timely manner.
    • Assist with setting up and taking down equipment for events and meetings.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in commercial cleaning, floor maintenance, and general maintenance.
  • Ability to operate cleaning and floor care equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Strong attention to detail and a strong work ethic.
  • Good physical condition and ability to perform tasks that require standing, walking, bending, and lifting.
  • Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and safe handling practices.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot and repair equipment.

Other Requirements:

  • Adherence to company policies and procedures for cleaning, safety, and maintenance.
  • Must work mornings, afternoon, evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, team members, and other staff.

This is a full-time position with an hourly rate starting at $19.50 an hour. Building Bridges is an equal opportunity employer.
