Magnolia Plantations & Gardens, one of the nation’s oldest and most frequented historical public gardens, is looking for a new Event Support Specialist to oversee the successful execution of weddings and events. This role serves as the second-in-command to MPC’s Events Manager, ensuring that guests have a positive, memorable experience with our property. This position requires nights and weekends.

What you will be doing:

  • Assists the Event Manager with the logistics of the event: supports parking, traffic control, and security procedures, oversees the delivery and set-up of vendor equipment pre-event; oversees the dismantling and removal of vendor equipment post-event
  • Serves as an MPC Point-of-Contact during the event: oversees welcomes guests upon their arrival and provides assistance to seating arrangements; conducts walk-throughs during the event to ensure that the venue and facilities remain neat and clean; tending to guest requests, questions, and resolving complaints/issues as they arise;
  • Responsible for closing out the event: provides direction for guest exits; creates end of shift report; ensures that MPC equipment used for the event has been cleaned/organized and put away; ensures venues used for the event have been cleaned/organized, trash removed, and lights/AC turned off
  • Makes emergency and general repairs for assigned equipment and facilities including plumbing, electrical, basic carpentry, heating and cooling, and other building systems
  • Meets with the Sales & Events staff weekly to debrief past events, make changes/improvements to current processes as needed, and to communicate details for upcoming events to ensure the comfort, safety, and best positive experience for our guests
  • Represent a team-player spirit when assigned other duties and projects as required

Requirements

Who you are:

  • You have 1+ years’ experience in an operations or food service role, preferably as a Banquet Captain or Event Planner in the tourism or hospitality industry. Serv Safe and/or TIPS certifications preferred, but not required
  • You’re passionate about customer experience and are extremely detail-oriented. To you, there’s nothing better than checking off all boxes of your to-do list
  • You’re comfortable connecting with a wide variety of people, and are able do so by flexing your communication style to meet the unique needs and backgrounds of the people you’re with
  • You’ve got strong customer service skills. You understand that the best events are ones that exceed guest expectations and have an excellent attitude and interpersonal skills with the utmost professionalism
  • Due to the nature of the events/wedding industry this position may require long-days and/or work on the weekends as needed. We’re mindful that in order for you to be the most effective in your role, it’s important that you balance that work with time to rest, so we offer generous PTO and other benefits to support you
