General Summary:


The Mortgage Loan Manager (MLM) is responsible for the overall supervision of the mortgage department with an emphasis on originating mortgage loans through both internal and external marketing efforts, working with RE agents, builders, accountants, etc. to build business referral partners.  They will determine the appropriate mortgage products, obtain proper documentation, and follow through with the entire loan process to assure a positive member and business partner experience.


The MLM will also manage the overall mortgage pipeline (first and 2nd mortgage loan applications), working with the internal loan officers and assigning loan applications out as necessary.  All employees are responsible for fulfilling our Mission Statement: “Help Our Members Achieve Their Financial Goals While Growing Stronger Together”.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Originate mortgage loans to meet individual and department production goals.
  • Consult with members/potential members on the advantages and disadvantages of various mortgage products to determine the best option for each financial situation.
  • Set proper expectations of the loan process, including time frame.
  • Schedule and participate in events to create opportunities for potential mortgage members.
  • Work with your supervisor to develop marketing and promotional strategies to attract new purchase business for both existing and potential members.
  • Evaluate documentation provided by the borrowers to ensure qualification of secondary market purchase or in-house guidelines. Work closely with members and processing department to complete files for approval.
  • Ensure that you are communicating with the borrower and all other parties in a timely manner throughout the loan process.
  • Expert on mortgage products offered by the credit union as well as secondary market and in-house products including loan pricing, compliance disclosures, qualification, and documentation requirements.
  • Maintain accuracy in loan pricing and fee disclosures.
  • Ensure residential loan files contain documents with proper signatures, dates, and other relevant data.
  • Prepare and distribute appropriate disclosures in compliance with regulations.
  • Maintain an elevated level of cooperation and rapport with all associates to ensure accurate and efficient operations and service.
  • Formulate and communicate new ideas and suggestions that will improve profitability and efficiency for the company’s overall mortgage operation.
  • Always promote professionalism in your dealings with fellow employees, members, business partners, and potential borrowers.
  • Complete required training and licensing (approved by CU for NMLS licensing) to assure compliance with all mortgage regulations. Stay current on new regulations, market updates and loan programs.
  • Understand and annually test on the Bank Secrecy Act and how it is applied.
  • Additional lending opportunities on non-mortgage products.


Qualifications

  • 2 – 4 years of related experience. A proven track record of a high volume of production consistently.  Previous credit union experience is preferred.
  • Strong listening, marketing, relationship-building, communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • High integrity and confidentiality required.
  • Must have excellent attention to detail.
  • Must be able to arrive at work on time and have regular attendance.
  • Work cooperatively with other co-workers regardless of personality, presence, or communication style.
  • Provide cordial customer service regardless of customer personality, presence, or communication style.
  • Perform several tasks at once.

  • Thorough understanding and knowledge of mortgage products and rates both within the Credit Union and industry overall.

Must work independently with minimal supervision, be proactive and demonstrate the ability to finish projects and tasks within the expected time frame.

Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization for purposes of giving or obtaining information, building relationships, or soliciting cooperation.  This includes frequently communicating with others through various channels:  Face to face, email, phone, etc.
  • Must be able to manage the pressures associated with a deadline-oriented atmosphere and customer service issues.
  • Able to prioritize numerous tasks with great attention to detail and demonstrate sound and prudent decision making, ethics, and professionalism.


Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

  • Works in office and field environment locations. This includes but is not limited to various outdoor and indoor climates, public venues, and driving conditions.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may regularly need to: see, talk, hear, and perform repetitive movements with arms, hands, and fingers to handle, feel, grasp, and reach. A computer, phone including a smart phone, and standard office equipment are normal tools for this position. Specific vision abilities that may be required by this job include close vision and distance vision. The employee may at times also need to: climb, balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
