Employment Status: Full-time
Shift schedule: rotating schedule; some evening and weekend shifts are required
FSLA Status: Exempt
Pay rate: $60,000 annually
POSITION SUMMARY
The Interfaith Works Women's Center (IWWC) is a housing-focused, low-barrier emergency shelter program for 37 adult women experiencing homelessness. The program provides a safe place for women to stay with meals, case management and housing location services. The goal of the program is to quickly move shelter clients to housing so that homelessness is rare, brief, and non-recurring. Under the supervision of Program Director, the Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) provides support, Harm Reduction supplies, mental health interventions, service coordination, and facilitate daily living activities to clients experiencing psychiatric crisis and homelessness in our 24/7 hours shelters using Trauma Informed Care and Harm Reduction lens.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Provide excellent customer service by treating everyone with dignity and respect.
- Collaborate with client in the formulation of a Case Plan that is reviewed and modified with client on a regular basis.
- Follow Harm Reduction tools and guidelines to help individuals stay safe.
- Keep inventory of Harm Reduction supplies and order/pick up as needed.
- Implement crisis intervention procedures when needed to ensure the safety
and wellbeing of all individuals. This includes using Narcan, calling 911 and/or the crisis center.
- Provide support for clients to receive transportation for recovery services.
- Observe, monitor, intervene upon, and document client behaviors and presentations.
- Complete medication observations, collection and documentation of vitals, and assists medical/nursing team.
- Facilitates group sessions effectively within scope of practice.
- Ensure proper documentation of daily activities including incident reports and grievances.
- Attend and participate in staff meetings and trainings as required by contract.
- Assist in the development of tailored services to each client with a Case Manager-i.e., housing placement, independent living skills, vocational guidance, appointment escorts, integrated substance use treatment, and family counseling.
- Maintain written and computerized records, compile reports and complete other program documentation (including case notes, transportation, statistics, letters, etc.) in HMIS.
- Perform other related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES)
- Must obtain a Behavioral Health Technician certification (IW will pay for the certification)
- Knowledge of Trauma Informed Care and Harm Reduction Model
- HS Diploma/GED required, college degree or Peer Certification helpful
- Knowledge of issues related to homelessness and community resources.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Able to communicate relevant information to clients, supervisors and co-workers.
- Ability to maintain calm under pressure and contribute to a de-escalation of crisis situations.
- Ability to maintain boundaries but comfortable using self and personal experiences as applicable
- Bilingual, (English, Spanish or other languages) highly desired.
- Ability to work as a team member with compassion, respect, and professionalism.
