About this position

The parent specialist provides guidance and information to prospective and enrolled families in the organization’s Child Care Services programs. The successful candidate must be able to communicate effectively, work both independently and collaboratively within a small, close-knit team, and thrive in a fast-paced environment. We are looking for someone with an upbeat, positive attitude who is eager to support the organization’s mission and achieve its strategic goals.


What you’ll be doing

  • Enrolling families, including certification and re-certification of eligibility for programs;
  • Working with all managers/supervisors and the parents to locate placement of the children;
  • Assisting in maintaining the waiting list;
  • Managing all paperwork to verify families’ eligibility and need of services;
  • Responsible for the calculating of parent fees;
  • Reviewing all attendance sheets for children on caseload;
  • Assisting parents to resolve problems with employers, schools, children and providers;
  • Coordinating social services, counseling, health and special education referrals with parents;
  • Assisting with planning and implementation of parent education and parent involvement components;
  • Managing assigned caseload, ranging from 90-160 families, as indicated on Job Steps;
  • Maintaining knowledge of the State funding terms and conditions for all applicable programs;
  • Maintaining current and accurate records in the database while maintaining confidentiality;
  • Maintaining complete and organized parent files;
  • Assisting with special events;
  • Assisting the department coordinators and division administrator as needed;
  • Representing the organization at meetings;
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

What you bring to the table

  • Experience working with parents and children;
  • Ability to work well with people, a sensitivity to the needs of children and families;
  • Good organization and clerical skills;
  • Basic computer skills;
  • Ability to correctly and effectively communicate in written and oral English;
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish or English/Mandarin with full proficiency (preferred);
  • Bachelor's degree in human services, social work, or related field (preferred);
  • Experience and/or training in a child development program (preferred);
  • A California driver's license, daily use of an automobile, and automobile liability insurance.

Job specifications

  • Reports to the subsidized coordinator;
  • Full-time, twelve-month work year;
  • Eight-hour workday; Four-day work week;
  • Opportunity for hybrid-work schedule may be available and to be determined by management;
  • Limited evening or weekend hours may be required;
  • Employment, responsibilities, compensation and other factors may be affected by changes in governmental regulations, the organization’s contracts, or at organization’s discretion.

Salary

  • $22.41 - $25.95 per hour
