Job DescriptionJob Description

The Company is looking for a hands-on, driven, energetic, collaborative, and proactive leader to drive our accounting function as our first Corporate Controller. This individual will work cross-functionally throughout the organization, including with the accounting, finance and executive teams as well as the sales and operations functions. The Controller will be responsible for managing the accounting and financial reporting functions of the company, with a strong emphasis on system and process improvement, implementing accounting and organizational controls, technical US GAAP accounting, and teambuilding. This is a new role at the company, reporting to the CFO, which is being introduced at this time given the company’s ambitious future growth plans.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, improve and lead the monthly financial close process with a focus on providing timely and accurate financial statements

  • The controller will play an active role in the close process, providing high level guidance and management but also contributing through preparing and reviewing journal entries, account reconciliations, etc.

  • Management of accounting functions and staff, which includes G/L Accounting, Financial Reporting, A/R, A/P, Treasury, Payroll, etc.

  • Responsible for the year-end audit process, including but not limited to: effective communication with the audit team and other 3rd party consultants (valuation, tax, pension), completing financial accounting memos, and preparing the audited financial statements and related disclosures

  • Actively engage with external auditors to ensure financial reporting compliance

  • Prepare consolidated monthly and quarterly financial statements

  • Assist in the management of the Company’s commercial insurance program

  • Manage the annual 401(k) audit process and other tax audits as they arise

  • Work closely with 3rd party advisors/consultants on all tax matters

  • Document processes and ensuring compliance with financial management and accounting regulations

  • Assistance with M&A due diligence activities when called upon

  • As necessary, lead integration of the accounting function of any acquired companies

  • Evaluate and execute enhancements for continuous improvement of Company’s internal control environment.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting

  • CPA required

  • 7+ years total accounting or finance experience

  • Comfortable challenging the status quo and willing to “roll up their sleeves and get things done” as well as possess a “can do” attitude

  • Previous experience with M&A and integrations is a big plus

  • Previous experience in a distribution business preferred

  • Experience with a Private Equity firm is a plus

  • Outstanding knowledge and understanding of GAAP compliance and technical accounting

  • Advanced competency in financial management and accounting software, including Microsoft Office products

  • Diverse system/ERP knowledge and experience

  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills

  • Demonstrated leadership ability, confidence and executive presence – ability to motivate and lead a team

  • Excellent analytical, reasoning and problem-solving skills

  • Significant experience working with external auditors, internal controls and related issues
