Job Summary
As a Prospect Researcher/Donor Relations Manager, the candidate will be responsible for conducting in-depth research to identify individuals, corporations, and foundations with the potential to support our organization's mission and initiatives. They will provide crucial insights and data-driven recommendations to our fundraising and development teams, enabling them to build strong relationships and secure vital financial support. This candidate will also play a pivotal role in nurturing and stewarding relationships with donors, alumni, and friends of the university. This position will be responsible for creating and implementing strategies to engage and retain donors, ensuring their continued support and involvement in the university's mission and initiatives.
Essential Functions
Research and Identification:
- Utilize various research tools, databases, and sources to identify potential donors, partners, and supporters.
- Gather and assess information on wealth indicators, philanthropic history, interests, and connections of prospective prospects.
Data Analysis:
- Analyze collected data to prioritize prospects based on their capacity and inclination to support the organization.
- Provide comprehensive profiles and reports on potential prospects, highlighting key findings and insights.
Relationship Mapping:
- Create relationship maps to identify connections between prospects and current supporters, board members, or staff within the organization.
Collaboration:
- Collaborate with the fundraising and development teams to ensure a coordinated and strategic approach to prospect cultivation.
- Attend meetings and provide guidance on prospect engagement strategies.
- Ensure timely and meaningful acknowledgement of donor gifts through personalized thank-you letters, calls, and other expressions of gratitude.
- Create and manage recognition programs and initiatives to honor donors and their contributions.
Stewardship:
- Continuously update and maintain prospect information to ensure accuracy and relevance.
- Support ongoing stewardship efforts to strengthen relationships with current donors.
- Ensure timely and meaningful acknowledgement of donor gifts through personalized thank-you letters, calls, and other expressions of gratitude.
- Create and manage recognition programs and initiatives to honor donors and their contributions.
Donor Engagement:
- Develop and execute strategies to engage donors, fostering a sense of connection and belonging to Harris-Stowe State University.
- Plan and coordinate events, including donor appreciation gatherings, alumni reunions, and cultivation activities.
Donor Communication:
- Oversee the creation and distribution of regular donor communication materials, including newsletters, impact reports, and updates on the university's progress.
- Collaborate with the marketing and communications team to tell compelling stories of donor impact.
Industry and Market Analysis:
- Stay current on industry trends and market conditions to help identify emerging opportunities and challenges.
- Share insights with the team to adjust strategies accordingly.
Minimum Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree
- Proven experience in prospect research, fundraising, or development.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in prospect research, donor relations, fundraising, alumni relations, or a related field in institutional advancement.
- Strong proficiency in using research tools, databases, and online resources.
- Exceptional analytical and data interpretation skills.
- Excellent communication and report-writing skills.
- Passion for higher education and a commitment to the university's mission.
- Knowledge of best practices in donor relations and stewardship.
- Detail-oriented and able to manage large volumes of data effectively.
- A high level of professionalism and discretion when handling sensitive information.
- Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
