POSITION SUMMARY

GMS seeks a passionate, seasoned Associate Director of Advancement professional to work closely with the Director of Advancement to develop and implement strategies aligned with the organization's financial and community engagement goals. The Associate Director of Advancement will primarily manage The GMS Fund (annual giving), The Bennett Scholars Breakfast (our signature advancement event), and additional programs and events as needed. This role will also work closely with our capital campaign committee and consultant to ensure we meet our fundraising goals.

Core job responsibilities include executing the strategy for annual donor activities and developing non-major donors, including managing one direct report, the donor database, and related records, and working with fundraising and event volunteers to manage and execute all fundraising and donor cultivation events. The Associate Director of Advancement will also manage a portfolio of donors and prospects related to our annual fundraising campaign, the Bennett Scholars Event, and our capital campaign. This role will also attend and administratively manage monthly Board of Trustees Advancement Committee meetings.

This is a full-time position offering some flexibility. Occasional weekends and evening work are required. The role is based at our campus in Palo Alto, CA.

Annual Fund & Special Events

  • Partner with the Director of Advancement to execute the annual giving campaign – The GMS Fund, and manage the interdependencies of contributing teams to implement our major giving campaign successfully.
  • Manage the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of mid-level annual fund prospects.
  • Identify and qualify prospects for elevation to higher levels of annual giving.
  • Collaborate with the Advancement Associate on donor research to draft solicitation meeting briefing notes for the Director of Advancement, Head of School, and other solicitors.
  • Proactively supports the ongoing analysis of member and donor programs and keeps up-to-date on best practices in the field.
  • Support the execution of engagement events through production assistance and attendance.
  • Collaborate to plan and execute the Bennett Scholars Breakfast. Responsibilities include but are not limited to, producing invitations and promotional materials, coordinating venues, managing volunteers, and producing run-of-show materials.
  • Effectively manage numerous outside service providers such as photographers, graphic designers, AV providers, and caterers related to all special events.
  • Collaborate with the GMS Communications Manager to compose appeal letters, impact reports, annual fund brochure, website content, and constituent communications.
  • Help grow new streams of revenue, including corporate sponsorships.
  • Ensure all transactions are accurately entered in the CRM.

Alumni Affairs & Parent Coordination

  • Develop engagement strategies and plans for GMS alumni and their families.
  • Calendar, plan, implement, and attend alumni events such as Class Reunions and Almost Alumni ceremonies.
  • Initiate, manage, and implement a robust outreach program that includes, but is not limited to, Alum communications, GMS Fund solicitations, Bennett Scholars Breakfast campaign, College Care Packages, the Gryphon Society, and the capital campaign class gifts.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Enthusiasm for the values and mission of The Girls’ Middle School.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to develop effective professional relationships with a diverse spectrum of donors, vendors, faculty, staff, and volunteers.
  • Proficiency with G Suite, Word, and Excel. Working knowledge of Asana, Constant Contact and Raiser’s Edge is a plus.
  • Understanding of the sound judgment required about confidential projects, personnel, school, or student matters.
  • Embodies a cooperative team approach with colleagues and a willingness to take on responsibilities beyond those explicitly defined.
  • The ability to demonstrate grace under pressure and creatively problem-solve.
  • Proven managerial skills and the ability to develop and inspire staff and volunteers.
  • Flexibility and a high tolerance for change and ambiguity.
  • When necessary, you must be physically able to assist with event set-up and breakdown, including lifting to 25 lbs.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

A minimum of 5-7 years of Development experience, including demonstrated success in individual giving, corporate sponsorship, alumni giving, and special events fundraising and management (preferably at an independent school), and an undergraduate degree required; a relevant advanced degree is a plus. COMPENSATION & APPLICATION

The salary range for this position is $100K - $130K and includes a comprehensive benefits package (health insurance, retirement plans, paid time off, and professional development opportunities).
