POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for aiding in the billing and collection processes under the direct supervision of the Director of Billing Operations. The Cash Poster/Post Payment Specialist primarily will be assigned duties in both payment posting and post-payment/follow up work. The Cash Poster/Post Payment Specialist may be assigned duties pre-billing, medical coding, and other specialized billing, and/or collections, as well. In addition, the Cash Poster/Post Payment Specialist will be responsible for answering incoming phone calls from patients, facilities, and other patient representatives in regards to outstanding bills.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Duties to be performed include the accurate and timely posting of paper and electronic payments.
  • Responsible for managing various aspects of deposits, such as collecting daily deposits and taking deposit to the bank; confirming deposits; associate deposit batches and posting daily deposits in Intact; match bank deposits and post accordingly, locating EOB on websites, if not available.
  • Posting Credit Card and ACH payments.
  • Responsible for reviewing and working outstanding claims for proper reimbursement.
  • Responsible for working denied and underpaid claims, appeals, and phone calls as appropriate.
  • Gather supporting documentation to support authorization or appeal.
  • Follow up with payers over the phone to get status of claims.
  • Answer incoming phone calls from patients, facilities, attorneys, etc.
  • Prepares outgoing mail – bills, invoices, statements, and reports.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and/or Experience: Medical Billing experience of a minimum of 1 year required.

Specific Function Related Skills: Customer service attitude; attention to detail; excellent telephone communication skills; research skills. Ability to work independently.

Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide; calculate figures and amounts such as discounts and interest.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written and oral form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
