It requires a proactive self-starter who sets priorities, takes on new projects and drives deliverables to execution with full accountability and an optimistic and friendly attitude.

The successful candidate will be a creative and strategic thinker with an understanding of the live, virtual and hybrid event space. This position will support multiple events that requires keen attention to detail and strong interpersonal skills.


Areas of expertise for this position should include creative thinking, project management, client management, financial responsibility and event execution.

Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities

  • Work closely with Manager of Brand Initiatives on strategy, content, marketing and execution for events.
  • Coordinate key functions and logistics for Gazette events, including but not limited to contracts, vendors, ticketing, food and beverage, venues, virtual platforms, marketing, decor and signage, printed materials and technical aspects
  • Work with marketing and creative teams on strategy and design for event promotional materials including email, print and digital advertisements along with printed programs and onsite signage.
  • Manage event budgets and attendee data, including accounts receivable and invoice submission. Provide reports and forecasts to management as directed.
  • Create and update event content on websites and ticketing platforms
  • Management support of event promotional plans
  • Provide strategic sales support to secure returning or prospective event sponsors including support on sales sheets, sponsorship proposals, and review of sponsor benefits
  • Recruit and coordinate volunteers
  • Develop and refine processes for creating, streamlining and maintaining invitation lists and registration process
  • Assist in the development of presentation materials to strengthen internal and client communication.
  • Research of industries and market interest for potential new events and event partnerships

Required Skills

  • Proven event management expertise including technical aspects of event production
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work across different teams/departments effectively with including Sales, Marketing, Production and the News Division.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and events simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated success in leading a group or team; management of staff a plus
  • Ability to communicate effectively and persuasively, in person and in writing.
  • Strong problem-solving skills – approaches problems logically with a solution-oriented mindset and with good judgment to provide the appropriate outcome
  • Experience in Teams and Zoom
  • Ability to work nights and weekends as needed
  • Ability to travel within Eastern Iowa, as needed

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 2+ years’ experience managing events; experience in the news and media space a plus
  • Interest and enthusiasm for all disciplines of programming that connects people to ideas
  • Strong project management skills, including an ability to manage multiple priorities at once
  • High degree of initiative and orientation toward results with a strong attention to detail
  • Knowledge and appreciation of The Gazette’s history and current products, services, and events
  • Exceptional people skills
