Job DescriptionJob DescriptionMount Auburn, a renowned nonprofit with 120 employees, is comprised of dedicated staff who are responsible for the daily care and stewardship of this National Historic Landmark, accredited arboretum and botanical garden, and active cemetery.  In addition to our staff, we have a vibrant community of over 100 other team members, including visiting artists, citizen scientists, archivists, and docents.
Our staff represent a wide range of professional backgrounds including arboriculture, customer service, curatorship, education, facilities care, financial management, fundraising, gardening, horticulture, human resources, information technology, landscape management, planning, preservation, security, internment, events, and visitor services.

Our organization is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Director of Information Technology (IT) to lead our IT department.  In this role, you will continue to lay a solid foundation on which to build our upcoming digital transformation initiative. As a leading provider in our industry, we will be relying increasingly on technology to drive our business forward. As such, the ideal candidate will have a solid technical background, strong leadership skills, and a strategic mindset.
 Position Summary
The Director of IT will be responsible for setting the strategic direction of our technology infrastructure, ensuring the implementation of latest technologies, and providing top-notch IT services across the organization. This role requires a unique balance of technical expertise, strategic planning, and people management.
 
  1. Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement the IT strategy and roadmap, ensuring alignment with the organization's strategic objectives. Act as a visionary, constantly identifying emerging technology trends and harnessing potential applications for the organization.
  2. IT Operations Management: Oversee all IT operations, including infrastructure management, systems and software, network security, data management, and IT support. Ensure smooth functioning and continuous improvement of all IT systems.
  3. Cybersecurity and Risk Management: Develop and maintain robust security strategies and policies to protect the organization's information assets. Lead risk assessment activities and establish business continuity and disaster recovery plans.
  4. Project Management: Direct and manage IT projects from initiation to implementation, ensuring that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and with high-quality results.
  5. Budget Management: Oversee the IT department budget, including forecasting, planning, monitoring, and reporting on budgetary performance.
  6. Vendor Management: Develop and maintain strategic relationships with vendors and service providers. Negotiate contracts and service level agreements to ensure value for money.
  7. Team Leadership and Development: Lead, mentor, and develop the IT team, promoting a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning.
Qualifications and Experience
  • A bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field (Master's degree preferred)
  • Minimum of 10 years of IT experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic planning and execution of IT initiatives
  • Proven experience in IT infrastructure planning and development
  • Strong knowledge of data analysis, IT budgeting, and business continuity planning
  • Sound understanding of computer systems (hardware/software), networks, etc.
  • Superior leadership and decision-making skills

Working Conditions
Early office hours: 7:30 AM - 4 PM with some support hours outside these times as needed for upgrades, etc.
