Role Summary 

As an intern at Prism Group, you will learn the fundamentals of public affairs and government affairs practices while developing an understanding of a wide range of business, political, and economic issues in the U.S. and abroad. At Prism Group, we are looking for creative and hard-working self-starters with diverse backgrounds, experiences, and ideas to join us. The Public Relations and Government Affairs Intern position is for college students who possess the ability to work independently and as part of a team.  

 

Interns will spend a semester actively participating in the policy affairs of the firm and learn about federal and state political processes. Interns will be integrated into a small but engaged team of public relations and government affairs professionals where they will have an opportunity to take on more substantial work than a typical intern, gaining valuable experience in public policy, lobbying, and corporate strategy. Excellent communication skills and a commitment to providing the highest quality client service are strongly preferred. Currently, Prism Group employees and interns work remotely on Mondays and Fridays, unless otherwise warranted by client meetings. We are in-office on Tuesday-Thursday. This position is based in Washington, DC. 

 

Primary Responsibilities  

  • Prepare daily newsletter and media clips for internal team and clients. 
  • Draft press release outlines and briefing documents. 
  • Attend Congressional hearings and meetings with key officials. Intern will provide succinct written readouts.  
  • Conduct background research on various topics and draft briefs based on findings. 
  • Support planning and execution of events, including client fly-ins and “Hill Days.” 
  • Assist the Public Relations team with gathering relevant government affairs policy issues and client policy priorities.  
  • Assist in planning and executing social media strategy on multiple platforms. 
  • Assist other colleagues in editing case studies. 
  • Conduct basic administrative duties. 
  • Special projects. 

 

 

Qualifications and Skills

  • Interested in a future career in government or government relations. 
  • Recent graduate or undergraduate working on a degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Government Relations, Economics, Communications, International Relations, or similar. 
  • Excellent organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail. 
  • Strong research, writing, and editing skills. 
  • Experience managing multiple projects and the ability to handle competing deadlines. 
  • Enjoy politics and policy issues. 
  • Enjoy socializing, networking, and facilitating connections. 
  • The ability to work independently and manage tasks remotely. 
  • Candidates must have full-time availability, Monday to Friday, 9am-6pm, with three days in the office from Sept. 1 - December 15th, 2024 

 

Prism Group offers a wage of $17 per hour and a $100 monthly travel stipend is provided.
