Senior Operational Risk Analyst


Position Overview:


The Operational Risk Analyst will have the primary responsibility of supporting the regional operational risk initiatives. As part of these initiatives, this role will support the development of an effective internal control environment through risk assessment, control activities, appropriate communication, and continuous monitoring. This role will proactively work with company management and stakeholders to identify and assess enterprise risks across all functions of the business, ensuring adherence to regulatory, legal, corporate, and functional requirements.


The successful candidate will be a motivated team player who has expertise in internal controls and operational risk management; a self- starter who is accustomed to working in fast-paced, complex, evolving organizations with diverse stakeholders; and an agile individual who is able to withstand challenges and adapt quickly with an execution mindset.


The ideal candidate will be comfortable with both domestic and international travel and have a solid grasp of energy trading and risk control practices.


Key Accountabilities:


Support the development and maintenance of the operational risk framework to enable identification and assessment of major operational risks across core and emerging commercial and operational activities in line with recognized best practice and standards.

Support the internal control framework thru maintaining process documentation (process flows), testing controls, following-up on any action plans for identified deficiencies, and monitoring remediation efforts throughout the year.

Support the New Business Assurance process and contribute to the risk oversight and control in relation to new strategic initiatives and operational capability projects.

Champion a strong risk culture for the company via elevating the risk knowledge by deploying risk management best practices across the organization. Provide expert guidance, credible challenge, and effective oversight of risk-taking activities throughout the company.

Contribute to various enterprise risk management initiatives, produce high quality deliverables including procedure documents, reports, and presentations for all levels of management.

Participate and support internal audit requests.


Qualifications:


Bachelor’s degree is required (Financial, Accounting, or related field).

5+ years of experience in Operations Management, Audit, Risk Management, or related field.

  • Minimum of 5 to 10 years’ experience in Energy Industry preferred.
  • CPA/CFA designation an asset.




Core Competencies:


Fundamental understanding of the Energy Trading Industry and Risk Control practices


Demonstrate an understanding of Controls Testing, Issue Management and Risk and Control Self Assessments within areas such as information technology, credit management, and treasury management.

Knowledge of applicable regulatory and legal compliance obligations, rules and regulations, industry standards and practices.

Knowledge of risk management principles and regulatory compliance requirements.


Strong organizational, analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.


Ability to effectively manage multiple deliverables and be able to identify and implement process improvements.


Strong communication skills, oral and written, ability to communicate well with front, mid and back office personnel as well as senior levels of management.
