Geo-Advantec, Inc. is seeking a full-time Project Engineering Geologist to join our collaborative team in San Dimas, Los Angeles County, CA. The successful candidate should be able to work independently and with other team members to apply critical thinking skills, perform geological analysis, and collaborate in preparing geological aspects of geotechnical reports for different types of projects.  This individual will provide support to our team and perform duties as an office geologist and field geologist during subsurface exploration, as well as construction support geotechnical services. The successful candidate shall be able to perform seismic hazard analysis, perform geologic mapping, and provide recommendations for hazard mitigation and other geology-related aspects of a project in a dynamic environment. In this role, the selected candidate will have the opportunity to work with an experienced group of engineering and geological professionals on a wide variety of challenging project types ranging from airports, highways and freeways, slope failures and stabilizations, fault zones, infrastructure projects for federal and state, and local public works agencies in the Southern California area.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Planning and execution of field investigations, including logging borings and test pits, collecting samples, performing field tests, and collecting and recording data.
  • Performing geologic hazard analysis, geological mapping, and fault studies.
  • Writing and preparing geotechnical/geology reports for various project types
  • Observing foundation and earthwork construction activities and monitoring conformance with the construction documents (plans and specifications).
  • Familiarity with and capability to work with common geological websites and tools from the CGS, USGS, SCEC, etc.
  • Collaborating with team members on project tasks and assignments.

The job may require local trips to/from job sites in Southern California.

Qualifications:

  • 3 - 5 years of experience in the engineering geology consulting industry
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Geology or Earth Sciences; a Master of Science degree in Geology is strongly preferred.
  • PG certification is strongly preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow directions, work in a team environment, and work independently on the assigned tasks.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent writing skills is a MUST.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
