What You Will Do

  • Provide hands-on support for existing environments to include performance of the following related tasks: software installation, patch installation, upgrades, query writing, configuration, security, system monitoring and tuning, disaster recovery planning, and release deployments.
  • Responsible for managing and upgrading Amazon EKS clusters
  • Implement tools and automation for build, configuration management, continuous integration (CI), deployment, and application monitoring.
  • Automate and evolve infrastructure, deployment strategies and testing to support a quick turnaround of deployments.
  • Maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) responsible for provisioning, configuring, and scaling infrastructure in cloud environments
  • Work closely with Engineering to ensure all relevant KPI’s are implemented within the monitoring framework.
  • Participate in all Production Support activities during incidents and outages. Hands-on technical resource capable of resolving all technical issues within lower and upper environments and making recommendations for performance and capacity improvements.
  • Participate in capacity planning, tuning systems stability, provisioning, performance, and scaling of the application infrastructure.
  • The desire to resolve issues for a 24x7 environment in a non-impacting yet fast-paced resolve time.

Skills and Experience Needed

Required:

  • 7 years of experience with tech stack in AWS:
  • Elastic Kubernetes / ElastiCache / KMS
  • Networking: VPC / Subnets / Route Tables / Security Groups / Flow Logs
  • Compute: EC2 / AutoScaling / Load Balancers
  • Database: SQL / RDS / Dynamo / PostgreSQL
  • Other: IAM / S3 / CloudWatch / CloudFront / Pulsar / Elasticsearch

Kubernetes

  • Extensive hands-on experience with Kubernetes in production environments.
  • Deep knowledge of Kubernetes control plane components (API server, control manager, scheduler, etc.) and worker node components (kubelet, kube-proxy, container runtime)
  • Proficiency in deploying multi-node, multi-master Kubernetes clusters with high availability.
  • Strong understanding of Kubernetes networking (CNI, ingress controllers, service meshes like Istio, Linkerd, App Mesh)
  • Solid understanding of disaster recovery strategies and load balancing in distributed systems
  • Expertise in containerization technologies (Docker, containerd, Podman)
  • Extensive hands-on experience with kubectl commands

Terraform

  • Extensive hand-on experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or AWS CloudFormation
  • Strong understanding of Terraform internals, including the state management system, dependency graph, and resource lifecycle
  • Experience managing Terraform state in multi-user environments using remote backend (e.g. AWS S3 with Dynamo DB)
  • Proficiency in creating and managing reusable Terraform modules, templates, and workspaces
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in Terraform related issues

Linux

  • Strong command of Linux OS (Red Hat, Ubuntu, CentOS, or Debian) for day-to-day administration and advanced server management
  • Deep understanding of Linux commands and utilities (e.g. grep, awk, sed, top, ps, df, du)
  • Experience troubleshooting connectivity issues between servers including
  • Network diagnostics e.g. ping, traceroute, telnet, nc, tcpdump, ss)
  • Debugging firewall, DNS, and routing issues affecting communication.
  • Expertise in Linux file systems, including partitioning, mounting, and volume handling using LVM, RAID, etc.
  • Working experience with automation and scripting in Linux environments (Bash, Python)
  • Experience with system performance monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimization
  • Networking: solid understanding of routing and networking concepts
  • Experience working with third-party vendors
  • Able to work effectively, both independently and as a member of a cross-functional team
  • Demonstrate a desire to automate as much as possible
  • Able to participate in on-call rotation

Desired:

  • Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery tools: AWS CodePipeline, Azure DevOps
  • Experience working in an Agile development environment
  • Web Servers: Nginx or Apache configurations and reverse proxies
  • Collaboration platforms such as JIRA, Confluence, Wiki, ServiceNow


Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; relevant, equivalent work experience may be substituted for degree requirement
