Role & Purpose :

As VP, Engineering Americas, you will be responsible for leading and scaling the Americas software engineering function and resources. Working in partnership with the peer level teams, you will inspire and lead your organisation to ensure that the Company Product Vision and Strategies are optimised and deliverable from the underlying/supporting technology perspective.


You will be passionate about the needs of our customers, their issues and how IRIS’ product suite can make their lives easier. You will ensure that the technology organisation puts the customer at the centre of what they do, working closely with colleagues in the Product organisation to ensure aligned and common goals. You will identify emerging technology trends, systemic challenges and other opportunities to formulate innovative, scalable and repeatable solutions.

You will play a pivotal role in leading the engineering organization in enhancing and extending the products and technology in IRIS’s portfolio of Accountancy, Payroll and Payments solutions. We are looking for a technical leader with proven experience leading engineering teams that can set strategy while driving constant innovation.


This role will create the vision in partnership with the Executive and Senior Leadership Teams, you will ensure that engineering runs smoothly from conception and prioritization to the point of scheduling and execution. This role will report directly into the Global CTO.


  • Oversee the Americas software development lifecycle from build, through test and deploy, into production across multiple cloud platforms and many products (built upon varying technology sets).
  • Work in Partnership with the CPO function to ensure that the technology solutions enable IRIS Customers to be more effective at what they do and provide pathways for them to consume more and gain even more value.
  • Ensure that our platforms operate to the required service levels to support our global customer base and standards expected of modern Could/SaaS services.
  • Be a Tech Thought Leader: create visionary plans, develop, inspire, excite and communicate, continually evolving the company’s strategic technical direction, creation of company standards, best practices, white papers, knowledge management and marketing materials.
  • Consistently evaluate technical efficiency, driving automation wherever possible, leveraging modern technologies. Track, analyse and act upon platform and SW engineering proficiency/performance metrics.
  • Support, manage, and coach the software development leadership team to build simple, scalable and innovative technology.


Requirements :

  • Previous Head of Engineering of a similar sized (or larger) organisation. Ideally with product knowledge that aligns to those offered by IRIS.
  • This role requires extensive experience in end-to-end product lifecycle management, including engineering and technical leadership.
  • Must have a breadth of experience in leading and legacy technologies and the ability to effectively evaluate current state technology landscapes and develop and execute modernization, consolidation, and convergence plans.
  • Proven experience of having overseen the successful architecting, build and operation of modern SaaS platforms based in AWS and Azure. This includes ‘digital native/born in the cloud’ platforms and the migration from on-prem/monolithic services.
  • Seasoned technologist with significant experience in building, integrating and running technical Platform/product infrastructure and application-oriented mission critical commercial services to paying customers.
  • Proven track record in building, evolving and maintaining a software engineering function that manages platforms and products from Modern cloud through to desktop. Proven experience in leadership role with Agile and distributed development experience.


Technical Skills

  • Experience driving successful technology transformations and customer migrations.
  • Experience in product portfolio lifecycle planning. Covering implementation of systems releases, customer migrations, retirements, and integrations in line with Customer expectations of modern SaaS service levels.
  • Experience of architecting, building and running highly scalable and resilient SaaS Product Platforms optimising use of both AWS and Azure services
  • Experience in establishing solutions and teams that are proficient in modern cloud architectures and technologies and accompanying development methodologies such as agile, DevOps & Site Reliability Engineering
