Position Overview:

The Director of Development will play a key leadership role in driving the organization’s fundraising strategies, managing donor relations, and cultivating partnerships with corporate, media, and community organizations. This position is responsible for overseeing all aspects of development, including donor cultivation and stewardship, fundraising campaigns, media relations, and the development of channel partnerships. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in nonprofit fundraising, excellent communication skills, and the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Fundraising Strategy: Develop and implement comprehensive fundraising strategies to meet the organization’s financial goals, including annual giving, major gifts, corporate sponsorships, grants, and special events.
  • Donor Relations: Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with current and prospective donors, ensuring a high level of engagement, recognition, and stewardship.
  • Channel Partnerships: Identify and develop strategic partnerships with corporations, foundations, and other organizations that align with the nonprofit’s mission and goals.
  • Media Relations: Build and maintain relationships with media outlets, developing and executing media strategies to increase the organization’s visibility and public awareness.
  • Campaign Management: Plan and execute fundraising campaigns, including online giving, direct mail, and special events, ensuring that they are well-coordinated and effectively promoted.
  • Grant Writing: Oversee the identification and application process for grants, working closely with program staff to secure funding from foundations and government sources.
  • Reporting and Analytics: Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of fundraising initiatives, providing regular reports to the Executive Director and Board of Directors.
  • Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a development team (if applicable), fostering a collaborative and results-oriented work environment.
  • Budget Management: Manage the development department’s budget, ensuring resources are allocated efficiently and effectively.
  • Community Engagement: Represent the organization at public events, conferences, and meetings to enhance its profile and build relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Board Collaboration: Work closely with the Board of Directors to engage them in fundraising activities, including identifying potential donors and supporting their outreach efforts.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nonprofit Management, Communications, Public Relations, Business, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, donor relations, or a similar role, with a proven track record of success.
  • Strong understanding of fundraising best practices, donor cultivation, and stewardship.
  • Experience in media relations, including working with press, developing media strategies, and handling communications.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to develop and execute comprehensive development plans.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
  • Proficiency in fundraising software and CRM systems.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to analyze data to inform strategy.
  • Passion for the nonprofit’s mission and a commitment to making a positive impact.
