Job Description:

• Lead and oversee the design and production of training programs for utility workers, collaborating with Instructional Designers, Subject Matter Experts, and other Academy team members.

• Conduct needs analysis with internal clients to recommend cost-effective learning and performance support solutions that meet business requirements.

• Work across the organization to determine training design, content and delivery methodology.

• Define the curriculum audience, learning objectives, instructional strategies, and course outlines.

• Provide coaching and support to instructional designers. Review the work of instructional designers to ensure quality of course materials.

• Provide support to project manager, including, but not limited to, managing timelines, estimating resources, and providing project updates.

• Ensure accurate reporting of status and forecasts of multiple projects.

• Manage multiple projects, deadlines, and the work of other instructional designers.

• Support instructional designers to create assessments following Academy guidelines.

• Partner with delivery teams to ensure successful transition of curriculum from development to the classroom.

• Evaluate learning effectiveness and implement changes as needed.

Required Skills:


10+ years’ experience as a Senior Instructional Designer analyzing, designing and developing instructor-led, (ILT) eLearning (WBT), and virtual training (vILT)

• Proven experience coaching other instructional designers to create quality training in a fast-paced environment.

• Experience working on large to mid-size projects and/or training programs across multiple organizations.

• Experience developing style guides for technical writing.

• Experience developing hands-on technical skills training.

• Experience developing knowledge and skill assessments.

• Ability to evaluate new learning technologies for use in training programs.

• Knowledge of PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Articulate Storyline.

• Available for onsite visits 5% to 10% of time. Must be available for overnight visits to PG&E mountain locations. 1 or 2 visits per quarter required.

• Experience developing software simulation training environments.

• Utility industry experience.

• Safety or compliance training experience.

• Author-It.

• QuestionMark.

• Bloom’s taxonomy and ADDIE model of curriculum development.

• Instructional video production.
