This position is a full-time, in-person role in our Washington, DC office. The Geospatial Information System Analyst will play a crucial role in the site selection process for new data center developments. This position involves using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to analyze spatial data, evaluate potential sites, and provide actionable insights to support the decision-making process. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in GIS, spatial analysis, and an understanding of the key factors influencing data center site selection.


Essential Functions

  • Conduct geospatial analysis to identify and evaluate potential sites for data center development
  • Collect, manage, and analyze geospatial data from various sources, including satellite imagery, demographic data, environmental data, and infrastructure maps
  • Develop and maintain GIS databases, ensuring data accuracy and integrity
  • Create detailed maps, reports, and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders
  • Utilize geospatial analysis tools and models to assess factors such as land use, zoning, environmental constraints, proximity to infrastructure (power, water, and fiber optic networks), and natural hazard risks
  • Collaborate with internal teams, including engineering, real estate, and environmental specialists, to integrate GIS findings into the broader site selection strategy
  • Stay current with GIS technology advancements and industry best practices to continuously improve site selection processes
  • Provide technical support and training to team members on GIS tools and applications
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards in all GIS-related activities

Commercial Real Estate Experience

  • GIS/mapping or research role in commercial real estate preferred
  • Data center experience ideal, but not required


Data Maintenance Skills

  • Create and maintain clean data sets for use in GIS and analytics
  • Present data to clients and teammates in an interpretable and professional format
  • Familiarity with database programming languages such as SQL, R, or Python is a plus, but not required
  • Ability to find, evaluate, and integrate data from a variety of sources, including open-source, government, and subscription-based sources.
  • Ability to research using city/county GIS/parcel viewer applications and public record databases
  • Basic sense of graphic design and ability to present GIS findings in a visually appealing and digestible format

Education and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Real Estate, Geography, GIS, Urban Planning, Environmental Science, or a related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in GIS analysis, preferably in the context of site selection, urban planning, or environmental assessment


Experience, Skills, and Competencies Required

  • Proficiency in GIS software such as ArcGIS Pro, QGIS, and related tools
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex spatial data and provide clear recommendations
  • Experience with remote sensing, spatial modeling, and geostatistical analysis
  • Knowledge of data center infrastructure requirements and site selection criteria is highly desirable
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey technical information to non-technical stakeholders
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work
