We are currently looking for a skilled and collaborative professional to join our Data Strategy team as an Assistant GIS Analyst. Reporting to the GIS Manager, your responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting data validations, creating maps and reports, testing GIS applications, and assisting the GIS Analyst and Senior GIS Analyst on various projects.

  • Researching and validating information from multiple data sources while effectively prioritizing results.
  • Performing data validations on addresses and locations using both internal and external resources.
  • Managing data, conducting spatial analysis, and performing statistical analysis within key projects.
  • Extracting, manipulating, and utilizing GIS data files and repositories.
  • Assisting in the preparation of maps, tables, reports, and metrics for both internal leadership and external stakeholders.
  • Designing and executing spatial analyses and visualizations using GIS software such as QGIS or ArcGIS, as well as BI tools like Tableau to present insights and analyses.
  • Communicating GIS concepts and best practices effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences in written and verbal formats.
  • Reviewing and testing GIS applications, clearly communicating results.
  • Contributing to the development of GIS policies and procedures.
  • Creating SQL queries and performing basic geoprocessing using R or Python scripting.
  • Collaborating with team members and across departments as necessary.
  • Conducting research using diverse data sources, managing conflicting definitions or results, and validating data.
  • Demonstrating knowledge of GIS tools such as QGIS or ArcGIS, with a quick adaptability to new technologies.
  • Presenting analyses and geographic concepts in accessible language for non-technical audiences.
  • Utilizing scripting or query languages such as SQL, R, or Python.
  • Working with large datasets is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with web mapping capabilities like CARTO or ArcGIS Online is a plus.
  • Exhibiting excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effectively collecting, organizing, analyzing, and disseminating significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Geography, GIS, Cartography, or a related technical field, or a Bachelor’s Degree in any field with a GIS certificate.
  • Zero (0) to two (2) years of relevant professional experience.
  • Experience or coursework in GIS, particularly in spatial analysis, statistics, and database structures.
  • Experience in developing data products such as maps, reports, models, and tools.
