Tooling Manager

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Will manage the Tool Room in a transfer and progressive press environment
  • Meets all operational targets and metrics (People, Quality, Delivery, and Financial)
  • Schedules the daily activities of the department in order to meet customer demands while providing a safe environment for employees.
  • Schedules and coordinates all activities within the department.
  • Recommends die modifications and ensures quality standards are met and maintained by continually communicating with the Quality and Production Departments.
  • Establishes and maintains an effective preventative maintenance program.
  • Implements any engineering changes based on customer requirements accurately and efficiently.
  • Ensures daily area production requirements are met while maintaining high standards of quality.
  • Ensure all resources are effectively utilized to maximize all value-added activities.
  • Liaises with all departments to exchange information on improving existing area manufacturing procedures and systems.
  • Identifies issues involving inefficiencies, non-value added activities and quality concerns. Identifies root causes and recommends and/or implements corrective action.
  • Maintains safety standards for all assigned areas by ensuring safety requirements are met and policies are adhered to.
  • Compiles and reports on area quality concerns and all non-value added activities at the monthly management meetings. Identifies and implements corrective action and ensures timely follow-up.
  • Conducts regular, timely reviews and yearly performance review for all direct reports and ensures timely review of hourly personnel.
  • Identifies improvement opportunities of personnel and provides direction regarding improvement or developmental opportunities.
  • Actively participates and drives continuous improvement activities to ensure maximum results in reducing costs.
  • Visits customer sites as required as a company liaison to establish and build upon positive customer relationships.
  • Prepares and monitors departmental budgets and capital requirements, ensures performance within the established parameters.
  • Actively participates in APQP teams design reviews, and feasibility commitment teams as required.
  • Involved in effective utilization of plant personnel within areas of responsibility including hiring, promotion and disciplinary actions as required.
  • Identifies and schedules training requirements for direct reports and assists in training needs of all hourly employees in area of responsibility.
  • Conducts Layered Process Audits as required.
  • Any other reasonable request made by management.
  • Contributes to a safe, clean and comfortable work environment that complements the Occupational Health and Safety Act by ensuring the principles of the 5S discipline (simplify, separate, sanitize, standardize and support) are supported and adhered to.
  • Ensures he/she is in full compliance with U.S. and/or state laws, while representing the company or during the use of any company provided equipment.

Required Qualifications:

  • Will have 10+ years of experience in manufacturing automotive industry.
  • Must have experience managing people in a transfer and progressive die metal stamping environment
  • Must have experience budgeting tool and die
  • Will have Servo Press background
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of Lean manufacturing process
  • Sound understanding of IATF 16949 and ISO14001requirements
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Effective presentation/facilitation skills
  • Effectively manages multiple tasks and changing priorities
  • Strong problem solving and decision making skills
  • Computer skills, including Word & Excel and other company-related software
  • Ab Assessing situation involving quality requirements of part/component and deciding next steps
  • Evaluating and recommending solutions in order to meet efficiencies regarding cycle time, machine breakdowns, etc.
  • Ability to source, gather, and synthesize information to provide recommendations.

Education:

  • University Degree or equivalent work experience with manufacturing/operation/production

Salary:

  • $100K-130K + Annual Bonus
