Durham, United States Southwest Research Institute Full time

Who We Are:

The SwRI Department of Earth, Oceans, and Space (located on the University of New Hampshire campus in the seacoast town of Durham, NH) offers exciting aerospace engineering opportunities. We offer a unique collaborative environment involving scientists and engineers at both SwRI and UNH. We design and fabricate spaceflight hardware, including new instrumentation and custom- designed avionics. Active programs include science missions in space weather, heliophysics, astrophysics, and Earth science, as well as commercial spaceflight programs.

Objectives of this Role:

  • Support the design, analysis, documentation, verification, and test of analog electronics hardware (possibly including power supply designs) for space applications.
  • Participate in the full life cycle design (from concept to hardware delivery) for flight analog electronics in high reliability systems for space applications.
  • Work effectively with a diverse team of scientists and engineers to develop a detailed list of requirements and to insure that the designs meet those requirements, participating in design reviews as needed.
  • Work to ensure that the analog electronics interfaces seamlessly with other components of the spacecraft payload as needed. This requires an understanding of the spacecraft systems and payload instruments, and the requirements of the analog electronics.
  • Interface with customers, and compile and present data to justify design.

Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the design and implementation of analog electronics for a variety of space-borne applications, including both government and commercial programs.
  • Interface with scientists and other customers to translate their requirements into operational designs, and validate those designs through simulation and test activities.
  • Participate in design reviews as needed, including both internal (peer) reviews and external (customer) reviews. Travel may be required.
  • Support integration and testing of space flight instrumentation. Travel may be required.
  • Provide necessary documentation to satisfy customer requirements. For many programs, this will include the documenatation necessary to satisfy QA requirements.

Requirements:

  • Requires a Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 5-12 years: Experienced in circuit design, with an emphasis on analog electronics, and PCB development.
  • 5-12 years: Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, Teams, and PowerPoint. Must have the ability to learn SwRI internal software, procedures, and business rules.
  • 5-12 years: Familiarity with circuit design and layout software. (Experience with Altium is a plus).
  • Experience working with projects using ISO 9001 quality systems is desirable.
  • A valid/clear driver's license is required.
