POSITION OVERVIEW

The Coordinator of Marketing & Communications (CMC) is pivotal in overseeing all marketing and communication efforts at Sonoma Botanical Garden. This multifaceted role includes managing logistics to effectively engage our audience across various platforms. Collaborating closely with the Executive Director and external marketing consultants, the CMC spearheads initiatives aimed at enhancing visibility and fostering meaningful connections with constituents of all ages. Key priorities in this position include:

  • Planning thematic content for Garden’s social media and Garden Bridge e-newsletter, aligned
  • with strategic goals.
  • Managing and updating website content and brand integrity. Coordinating with vendor.
  • Populating digital media calendars and suggesting relevant content and imagery.
  • Responding to online comments, direct messages, and reviews.
  • Designing occasional in-house messaging and coordinating with graphic designers for larger
  • projects.
  • Coordinating print production with vendor(s).
  • Spending 75% of time on logistics and planning, and 25% on collaborative content creation.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • E-newsletter: monthly general eblast, monthly programs eblast and others as needed. (Mailchimp)
  • Collaboratively plan and maintain digital content calendars including community calendars.
  • Coordinate with vendors such as graphic designer, publicist, website administrator, & media
  • partners.
  • Assist in content creation and writing copy reflective of the Garden’s mission.
  • Monitor social media channels, respond & interact. Recommend strategies for improved
  • engagement.
  • Create and maintain digital engagement metrics dashboard.
  • Model exceptional customer service and visitor engagement.
  • Maintain a flexible work schedule to participate and be present at programs and events.
  • Other duties as assigned to meet the needs of the organization.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications or a field related to the Garden preferred.
  • Previous experience in marketing & communications.
  • Excellent organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Prompt handling of time-sensitive media matters, swiftly addressing urgent communications
  • to maintain timely and effective engagement with our audience.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage with diverse
  • audiences.
  • Knowledge of local flora and fauna is a plus.
  • A warm, friendly & flexible demeanor with a passion for working with others.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team.
  • Comfort with diverse perspectives.
  • Proficiency in multiple social media platforms, especially Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn.
  • An interest in nature conservation and botanic gardens.
  • Strong storytelling and writing skills preferred.
  • Photography and photo editing skills on mobile devices preferred.
  • Familiarity with online marketing strategies and platforms preferred.
  • Proficiency in Meta Business Suite, Yelp for Business, and Google Business Manager
  • preferred.
  • Bilingual English & Spanish preferred


PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Some physical activity is required, including limited lifting, and walking on uneven terrain.
  • Work performed in shared indoor and outdoor spaces, subject to weather conditions.
  • Equipment includes general office tools, golf cart, two-way radio, and mobile phone.
  • Regular weekday hours with fluctuations based on seasonal needs.
