Boston Real Estate Collaborative (BREC) is a property management, development and investment company located in the South End. BREC’s sister company, Thatch, is an innovative hospitality management company that specializes in the marketing and operations of staff-less hotels. Both companies work side by side, making BREC and Thatch the only vertically integrated company of its kind in Boston.


BREC’s portfolio consists of apartment and commercial buildings throughout the Boston area. Thatch’s hospitality portfolio spans Cambridge and Boston, with 6 locations and over 90 keys and growing. We operate a range of accommodations from hostel concepts to boutique hotels to apartment hotels. We do not have front desk, dedicated staff or concierge positions at our locations. Instead, we have a central reservation and customer service office in Boston and roaming operations staff. This allows us to keep overhead at the locations low and enables us to provide high quality stays for less than what you would pay at a traditional full-service hotel. In order to succeed at this we get ahead of problems before they happen and when they do arise we respond to them quickly.


The Assistant Operations Manager position is an essential role for upholding our brand standards, guest experience and the quality of our properties. As such you play a vital role at the company and in the experience of our guests.

Primary Responsibilities


The Assistant Operations Manager (AOM) wears several important hats throughout the workday. They are organized and scheduled in the quality control of the properties on a regular basis, performing walk throughs of rooms, common areas and buildings to uphold our brand standards and seek out issues before they arise. They resolve issues themselves, when able, or coordinate resolutions when work is required by other members of the team or outside vendors. On occasion unforeseen problems arise and they are the first responder to assess the situation, be a source of resolution for guests and ultimately to track the issue to resolution. AOMs report directly to our Operations Managers who set up and oversee the processes and responsibilities that are performed.


Specific responsibilities include:


  • Scheduled and as-needed quality control visits to properties throughout the week. Organized tracking of property needs from start to finish. This includes routine tasks like re-stocking supplies in a room all the way up to project management of a minor renovation project.


  • Responding to guest issues by phone or on-site to ensure prompt resolutions and happy guests.


  • Help manage inventory that is essential to the successful operation of our properties including ordering, stocking, billing, tracking and distributing inventory to the properties.


  •  Be the eyes and ears for Thatch on-site and with guests to ensure a great guest experience.


  • Be technologically savvy and able to work with phone and computer based applications and software systems that are essential to our business. 


  • Always have a friendly, customer-first attitude.


  • Uphold brand standards through daily work, feedback with guests, and communication with team members. 


Work Schedule:


  • Non-Peak Season (January through early March) Hours 9am – 5pm Monday through Friday
  • Peak Season Hours 9am – 5pm Tuesday through Saturday
  • Emergency situations may require working outside of set schedule



Compensation & Benefits


  • Salary determined by experience and ability.
  • Performance bonuses on a percentage of base salary are paid those who excel in their role. Bonuses are earned, not guaranteed but exceptional performance is rewarded.
