Overview

We are looking to add a Corporate Quality Assurance Director to our team in the food manufacturing space. This person will be working directly with the VP of Operations on developing and implementing Quality Assurance and Operations practices in conjunction with those of our supplier, co-packer and our plant QA teams.


Essential Job Functions and Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement strategies and programs to mitigate food safety risks.
  • Ensure customer and regulatory requirements are appropriately reflected in the implemented programs to strengthen compliance.
  • Strengthen a culture of food safety behaviors.
  • Develop and maintain strong connections with external associations and industry experts to continually enhance expertise for the changing landscape (regulatory, analytical, etc.).
  • Anticipate future needs of the business and changing supply chains in order to meet the challenges in advance of business needs including new business developments.
  • Provide technical assistance to ensure the highest standards of food safety are in place.
  • Disseminate best practices and enable compliance to requirements.
  • Provide direction, leadership, and guidance for all Food Safety Systems, Quality programs, Regulatory Compliance, and Customers’ Specification throughout the company
  • Serve as a key leader in our dynamic, rapidly growing business and be responsible for managing the Quality Assurance Department to provide safe, high-quality products that meet and exceed customer expectations.
  • Manage internal audit programs, product recalls and traceability, and perform mock recalls for all manufacturing locations.
  • Network with other organizations in the industry, developing working relationships with regulatory agencies.
  • Provide technical assistance to ensure the highest standards of food safety are in place.
  • Disseminating best practices and enabling compliance to requirements.
  • Ability to analyze customer complaint data/analyze laboratory results and implement corrective action strategies.
  • Develop metrics and benchmarking for company performance.
  • Skills necessary to be used are strategic management, auditing, process evaluation, hazard assessment, risk management strategies, and root cause analysis, will be utilized to achieve business objectives and facilitate continuous improvements.
  • Some travel as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Must have bachelor’s degree in food science or related science program.
  • Master’s degree or higher preferred.
  • Prior QA food manufacturing experience is required.
  • Preferred experience in the following: Dairy, Meat (Fully Cooked/Heat Treated/Raw), Bakery, Breaded Appetizers, Enrobed Dough, Portable Meals, Pastas, and Prepackaged Frozen Entrée.
  • Strong knowledge in Environmental Monitoring Programs and controls.
  • 5+ years of USDA and FDA compliance experience.
  • 10+ years of relevant technical, quality and food safety experience in Ready-to-Eat (RTE) consumer products organizations with a demonstrated track record of accomplishments.
  • 10+ years of managerial and leadership experience within a Quality Assurance and Food Safety function in the food industry.
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing, managing and improving Quality and Food Safety Management Systems.
  • Current knowledge of regulatory requirements e.g. FSMA Produce Safety Rule, Preventive Control for Human Foods, and Sanitary Transportation Rules.
  • HACCP and SQF Advanced Practitioner Certified with extensive work experience leading GFSI certification, specifically SQF for RTE products.
  • Extensive work experience and knowledge of HACCP, Hygienic Zoning, Environmental Monitoring Program, Sanitation and Allergen Preventive Controls, and Food Defense
  • Experience in QA management of several facilities.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Outstanding leadership and cross-functional team building skills with the ability to lead teams through considerable change by inspiring confidence in achieving results.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with strong emphasis in technical reporting is a must
  • Strong, logical decision-making and critical thinking skills.
  • Must be able to efficiently manage time and meet deadlines.
  • Exhibit a sense of ownership and accountability.
  • Establish and maintain effective work relationships within the department and the company.
  • Ability to multitask with strong attention to detail.
