Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Management: Assume direct management and administrative responsibility for the overall operation of the Nursing Department, including hiring, educating, evaluating, and managing staff.
  • Strategic Planning: Carry out the System, Hospital, and Nursing Service mission, vision, values, and overall strategic plan, clinical management, patient care, budgeting, financial management, and quality management in all areas of the hospital.
  • Patient Care: Promote the health system service standards and create a patient-focused caring environment while ensuring that individual patient needs are met.
  • Collaboration and Respect: Foster an environment of collaboration and respect with physician colleagues, nurses, and other healthcare team members.
  • Nursing Care: Develop, implement, direct, and evaluate nursing care staff and/or programs, counsel, direct, and instruct nursing staff in clinical and management concerns.
  • Operational Performance: Monitor unit operational performance metrics, including LOS, agency and overtime costs, vacancy, and turnover rates.
  • Staffing and Resources: Assess unit activity, patient activity, and personnel resources to ensure equitable and appropriate staffing.
  • Quality Improvement: Participate in activities to correct deficiencies in patient care services.
  • Professional Practice: Role model standards of professional practice (clinical, educational, and leadership) for colleagues and external customers.
  • Culture and Compliance: Promote a just culture environment where staff feel safe to admit mistakes, report problems, and take ownership and accountability of their actions, and maintain a broad understanding of the regulatory environment to support compliance with requirements.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, required.
  • License: Current license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State, required.
  • Experience: 7+ years of technical experience, required, and 2+ years of leadership/management experience, required.
